Back home, back to the basket balls!!

You mean the 'Banks Buckets'?

/Joe Morgan idiocy

He called it "Banks' Alley."

My dad and I are going to be able and say those two words and make each other crack up until the day one of us croaks.

For anyone who doesn't remember this reference, Morgan said on Sunday Night Baseball that they used to refer to the baskets as "Banks Alley" because so many of Banks' HRs landed there.

Of course it took 2.1 seconds for a Cubs fan to point out that the baskets were installed in (I think) the early 70s and Banks hit only a handful of his 512 HRs afterwards

You guys will be super shocked to hear that Thom Brenneman is railing against Castro and his contract and his laziness

You'd think he'd be thrilled he played for the Cubs.

I remember the booth getting REALLY quiet after that, like everyone knew it was wrong but nobody [expletive] called him out for it.

It's like physically painful to watch Hendricks pitch, watching him nip away at the corners of the strike zone and rarely get a borderline call, then having to challenge the hitter with his weak stuff because the count is 2-0 or 3-1

I was thinking (and I could be wrong) that they put up the baskets in '68 or '69..... but still the point stands. Banks had made his career and his reputation solidly by that time. Furthermore, Ernie (much like Sosa) was never ever known for hitting "cheap" home runs. When he connected, it was a no doubter !!

Now repeat with even more pain for a Dan Haren start

Man, my dad and I are going to have to correct ourselves because we're wrong, too; he called it "Banks' BOULEVARD."

Anyway, the baskets were installed in 1970, and Banks only hit 7 more home runs between then and when he retired. I hope Joe Morgan falls and impales himself on his cane.

I always thought Joe Morgan was incredibly dumb and obnoxious (and Fire Joe Morgan was one of my very favorite blogs when it ran) but he always seemed like an eminently nice and sweet person

You are a bad judge of character.

That's probably true of anyone who is so unconventional because our minds are trained to reject what they do. To give an example on the other end of the spectrum, I think it was even harder to watch non-dominant Marmol pitch. He was still effective (as Hendricks also is), but it was a chore watching the race between walks and strikeouts.
