did Montero even realize it was a no-hitter? What the hell was he doing after he caught that last strike?

so Utley has played in 3 no hitters this year, right? I wonder if that has happened before

Was at portillos and once I heard, I sprintrd out like a complete idiot with a half eaten beef sandwich in one hand, rushed home, and successfully got there in time for (literally) the last pitch.

If you are counting the Hamels no hitter, he didn't play that game.

I was, I thought he was off the DL by then and played that weekend. I was on vacation so didn't watch that game so I guess my facts are off.

Was at the game tonight. Amazing. My 6 year old said he was tired and wanted to leave in the 8th inning. [-X

"and that's how tman's son learned what "go [expletive] yourself" meant"

Well that's presumptuous...

"17 wins, 2.11 ERA....not an All Star" would've worked better and is far more egregious.

Someone's probably mentioned it at some point, and not that it matters, but has a non-Allstar ever won the Cy Young before? I'm guessing yes.

Exactly. The more interesting part of the evening was that after the game my wife said there were a bunch of young girls putting on pajamas in the ladies room after the game. Turns out the wives and gfs must have made the trip too after looking at pictures later.

Grienke would need to completely implode for Jake to win it. I can't imagine a guy with a sub 2 ERA not winning it.

There's a pretty significant chance that Arrieta may end up under a 2 ERA.

Arrieta up to 5.4 fWAR, which is tied with Dallas Keuchel for 4th among pitchers. He's ahead of Greinke now. The only pitcher ahead of him in WAR in the NL is Kershaw.

I remember in 2005 when Roger Clemens had a sub-2 ERA and placed third in the voting because he had 13 wins

If Shark was just a little more patient and waited out the rebuilding process he could have been a part of a winning team. Of course in that scenario we don't have Addison Russell and are more focused on extending Shark (assuming he doesn't fall on his face w Bosio coaching him) than going after a David Price type this offseason. Or perhaps we plan for an ace in 2016 and don't sign Lester this offseason.

The funny thing is the As immediately tanked after they traded for Shark and the Cubs actually had a better record than them after the trade. Sure he "made the playoffs" but they lost in the Wild Card game and he didn't pitch.

Now this year he goes to the White Sox who are huge disappointments and gets to watch the media praise the Cubs who are contending.

A month ago or so, he got asked if his struggles will affect his Free Agency and he basically laughed and said no, "that that work has already been done".

If he thinks he's breaking the 5/85 or even getting close to that, at this point, he's in for a rude awakening.
