what did dabum get banned for anyway?

this guy HAS to have done whatever he did by now. just in sheer volume it's statistically impossible that he hasn't.

you tell me what i said that isnt true and ill pay you ./.

facts are facts. the cubs bottom of the rotation is [expletive]. if the bats are strong we dont win. Our hot streak in August was due to the BATS coming alive. you watched every game also right? The main reason our offense has been top in the NL in the 2nd half was because of August. Dont sit here and tell me you are blind to see the truth

The Pirates 3-4-5 starters are Locke/Happ/Morton. The Giants is whatever 3 members of the 2005 all-star team happen to be healthy at the time. The Dodgers in all their 300 million dollar glory had to trade for 2 starters at the deadline and are still Kershaw/Greinke and pray for rain. Just because the back half of the rotation isn't full of Top 10 starters like Arrieta and Lester doesn't mean it's a liability.

If you can count on winning maybe 20% of games started by Haren and Hendricks , it puts a lot of pressure on you to win every Arrieta and Lester start and most of Hammel's

Well, assuming we lose today, we'll be 16-14 in games started by Hendricks and Haren. So this is one of the dumbest things I've seen.

Looking at the number Lieber was actually better than I remembered and was like league average (though his peripherals forecast doom)

what?

lieber was legitimately really [expletive] good

you said kyle hendricks is mediocre

you think our rotation is a weakness

you think 5th starters are supposed to be really good

all of it is wrong

tell that to the cardinals which we trail by what 6 games? Hendricks is Average! he isnt above average he isnt good he is average look at how his stats rank up and that he is NOT average.

Lmao what does that have to do with anything David said?

What upsets me is that the FO traded for a mediocre 5th starter when we had the means to get someone much better (not to mention our internal options aren't going to perform any worse than Haren on any given day). Not saying we should have overpaid for someone like Price or Hamels, but Christ, surely there was a number 3 or 4 type we could have gotten. We were only a handful of games above .500 at the trade deadline and it wasn't clear we were going to surge into the Wild Card lead. The FO should have known to give the Cubs a bigger edge than Dan [expletive] Haren at the back of the rotation.

If Hendricks is average, that's pretty good for a 4th starter.

To me Hendricks is a young inconsistent pitcher. He had a stretch this year where he had something like 25 straight scoreless innings. You can't just forget that and only focus on his recent outings

He has a 3.50 FIP, he's more than fine.

All>>> I am comparing the Cubs (my favorite team) vs. the Cardinals (the team i Hate the most) we will never surpass them with trash heap bottom of the rotation starters... at least not in 2015. to me all other teams dont matter. the road to the world series is going through st. louis this year. There's also the whole Hendricks and Haren aren't going to always be up against the ace of a >.500 team thing.

This makes the Pirates' inability to lose even more infuriating.

Why would you compare the Cubs to a historically great pitching staff? Setting the bar a little high don't you think?

Last I checked Hendricks and Haren have been going against pretty much top of the line pitchers the past aside from the Lester vs. Kluber game this week most of the time our best pitchers are throwing we are facing the bottom half of the other teams rotation.

He was excellent in his first stint with the Cubs. When he came back in '07 (?), I think he was pretty much done.

Why wouldn't you compare yourself to your top competitor? Anything less is setting the bar too low. Same goes in business.

One doesn't simply arrange a sub-3 ERA pitching staff at the drop of a hat. You either develop an amazing farm system, overpay for aces who will lose their luster in a few years, or trade from hitting depth to acquire young, cost-controlled pitchers. The first and third options take time to develop the necessary talent, and you don't want to lean too heavily on the second choice.

ah so that is sure to continue and obviously not pure happenstance
