Mad Bum and Arrieta have very similar numbers this year. What really strikes me is how crazy affordable Mad Bum is, from FanGraphs:

◦2013: $0.8M, 2014: $3.8M, 2015: $6.8M, 2016: $9.8M, 2017: $11.5M

◦2018 Team Option: $12M ($1.5M buyout)

2018 option becomes guaranteed with 200 IP in 2017 or 400 IP in 2016-17. Options increase to $14M with top 3 finish in Cy Young vote 2012-17 or to $16M with Cy Young award 2012-17

◦2019 Team Option: $12M ($1.5M buyout)

Just wanted to confirm that with numbers

ERA:

MB: 3.02

JA: 2.22

FIP:

MB: 2.85

JA: 2.58

K/9:

MB: 9.5

JA: 9.2

WHIP:

MB: 1.04

JA: 0.98

WAR:

MB: 3.1

JA: 5.5

Fairly similar but looks like Jake has been significantly more valuable

Why the big bump for Jake in WAR? Numbers are pretty similar otherwise

FWIW, if you include the bat and go with fWAR, they're a lot closer. fWAR has MB and JA at 5.2 and 5.0, respectively.

He's using bWAR which is very descriptive. Arrieta's 0.80 edge in ERA explains it. Using fWAR it's closer(4.9 to 4.1).

What is really kind of cool is Mad Bum has hit 5 dongs, most by a pitcher since Big Z, in like '08.

At least we're finally pitching Haren in a fly ball friendly park.

This. I'm hoping/expecting a much better start than what we've seen from him so far. Will it be good enough to beat Bumgarner? We will see.

Just realized SF is playing the Cardinals this weekend.

AR, who are you rooting for in this one?

Posted
I'm assuming since Fowler PH last night he is truly just getting days offs in a row because he's played so often?

well he did get plunked on his hand the other day - maybe it's difficult for him to throw as opposed to bat?

Bryant trying out RF means possible Baez call up playing 3B?

I think it means they're facing a LHP and still want to give Fowler another day to ensure he's 100%. It's also a day game after night game so a good opportunity to get Schwarber out of the lineup.

Schwarber is in the lineup. He's catching.
