Chris Coghlan is playing RF. Today. That's happening. If he's playing it today, I'm guessing he'll be playing it going forward.

Soler was garbage defensively and barely contributing with the bat; the downgrade from him to Coghlan/Denorfia is negligible, if any at all. They've got a ton of guys to play 2B.

I understand that if this were a video game, we could simply plug Bryant, Schwarber, or Coghlan in RF and they wouldn't miss a beat.

How is video game Coghlan different from real life outfielder Coghlan? You could say that he will be a below-average defender in Right Field, which is exactly what Soler has been all season.

Yeah. "Guys, guys, let's be real, Joe would never do such a thing!"

The Rosscup bit has me scratching my head. I mean Motte was my favorite bullpen guy to hate on after Schlitter, Ejax were gone, but Russcup...

In his rehap stint at Iowa the guy put up an amazing 7+ era and has a 1.5 whip..

The depth is really terrible down there for pitchers...

It's almost like a relief pitcher's ERA through 7.1 innings might be deceiving. And it's also almost like we don't have any All-Star relief pitchers sitting around in the minor leagues.

We removed the worst player from our line-up and did so without tipping off other teams that we realize how much he sucks, salvaging what little trade value he still had.

Well, he still has medium amount of trade value imo, but yeah I am not worried about how we will replace his replacement level pwrformeance.

A good chunk of the next two series better hitters are left-handed (Belt, Crawford, Aoki, Gonzalez, Utley, Crawford, Ethier) so calling up Rosscup makes sense and probably is the best option aside from rolling the dice on Edwards.

I didn't say you would be wrong.

I'm not too broken up about Soler. We probably become better defensively, all things considered, and I have faith Maddon will play the right matchups between Starlin, TLS, and Javy.

Just answered your own question. I know that Rivero's name comes up every time there's a bullpen vacancy, and I've wondered myself. But there must be a reason, or he'd have been up a while ago. Besides, in a few days, they can add as many bad relievers as they want.

True. But as good as the offense has been lately, they're not good enough to survive a world with Coghlan at 2nd and Bryant and Schwarber at the corners. And Fowler isn't exactly Lorenzo Cain in center.

Ditto.

I'm not sure why, but it sounds like he thinks Schwarber and Bryant would for some unknown reason be playing LF and RF with Coghlan at 2nd. But he's a crazy person who very rarely makes sense, so that may be way off.

lol, my goodness. Come on man.

1) Coghlan will be playing RIGHT FIELD.

2) Coghlan and Bryant won't/wouldn't be worse in RF than Soler. I'd actually bet decent money Bryant would be a noticeably better outfielder than Soler, but instead he will remain at THIRD BASE.

The thing that I don't understand is how he could be this confused after we've already played a game with Coghlan simply shifted into Soler's spot in right and Bryant still at third.

Probably refuses to believe La Stella is actually alive. Hard to blame him.

I can't tell if this was Mulligan or Hanley but loved this comment when interviewing Len this morning:

"Motte with 8 wins out of the pen to go along with 9 holds and 6 saves, gonna be tough to replace that out of the pen right?"

No, I don't expect Schwarber and Bryant at the corners. To put it simply, I would like another bat. A .710 OPS is by no means a difference maker. But at the bottom 3rd of our lineup, it was a very nice luxury to have.
