Minor League Central has contact rates, although it doesn't look like they've updated in nearly 2 months.

Baez 2014 at Iowa

April: 56%

May: 58%

June: 68%

July: 69%

Baez 2015 at Iowa

May: 69%

June: 64%

I was bored/curious enough to see how things had been going for him recently, so I went through Gameday to see what August looks like for Baez. I can't guarantee these are 100% accurate(I'm not that bored/curious), but should be pretty close.

8-8: 7 for 7

8-7: 9 for 10

8-6: 5 for 6

8-5: 5 for 8

8-4: 6 for 7

8-3: 9 for 10

8-2: 6 for 10

8-1: 8 for 13

Total: 56 for 71, 78.8%

Keep it up Javy :)

I know the stablizing point for K rate is a relatively low number of at bats, somewhere around 75 if memory serves... Anyone know if contact rate stablizes as quickly, since they're so closely linked?

dunno if anyone missed this but

Poor phrasing on Levine's end

Castro said he is trying not to focus on the future and stay positive, but also admitted he wouldn't mind having a conversation with Epstein's front office if there was the possibility of a position or role change.

"Yeah, if I have a chance to talk to them, I will," Castro said. "Whatever they can do, they know why they do it and they know what is best for me and the other players.

"Whatever decision they make, I'm in."

It's one of those great "heads I win, tails you lose" sports journalism questions.

"Would you want to talk to team management if they asked you to switch positions?"

If yes, then "Castro would demand conversation with management before agreeing to position switch!"

If no, then "Castro not interested in conversation with management, relationship straiend!"

Beat me to it Jennie. The way Levine worded it makes it sound like the exact opposite of what Castro was inferring.

Depending what they do FA wise in the offseason I wonder if they'd consider moving Castro to CF, yeah it's all going to come down to if his bat comes back to find a spot for him anywhere but it would be something I'd like to see if they really are serious about him sticking around.

Ive said this before but I think Baez to CF might be something we see in the future. I think he fits there much better than Castro.

Baez is faster than Starlin & more agile & seems more explosive. Plenty of SS have made the jump to CF.

That sounds ... like a disaster. But of course we also had sontensei of all people predict Cogs going to 2nd, so who knows

Baez to CF? I don't see disaster. It might not be great but unless you are moving off of SS because of age or sizing out, you should be able to go from SS to CF.

Baez is fast enough to play CF, but he would need to do a lot defensive training. I think he could do it and end up like a young Carlos Beltran

You do realize Carlos Beltran was arguably the best defensive CF'er in baseball in his prime, right? That's a mighty lofty expectation.

Dammit, you beat me to it. I think Baez (or Castro) would be fine defensively in CF, but comparing him to Beltran? Good Lord.

I'm having crazy thoughts like Castro takes to 2B, something clicks and Baez is also able to hold down CF. They sign Heyward and plug him in to RF and slide Soler over to RF. Or maybe sign Cespedes instead.

Basically I want bonkers things to happen.

I don't think Baez would be *bad* at other positions like CF, but it's a little odd to me that we're talking about him in those terms when there's a perfectly good every day job waiting to be seized at 2B. Last year the speculation with Alcantara partially centered around there not being a home for him with Castro/Russell/Baez/Bryant in the infield. Baez has a higher ceiling and a clearer every day opportunity.

Happ's gonna need a spot. :D
