Yes, this is rock bottom. And I suppose if you have to hit it, this would be a good time; still right in the race with plenty of time to right the ship.

It's over dude trade what you can restock for 2016

A shutout inning and a homer?? Can Ross talk to Lester about how to pitch to Schwarber??

Edit: Nevermind Teagarden caught and Kyle was in Left.

Ross with the hot bat sit schwarber till next week

This is bad. No signs of anyone coming out of their slumps. I think you have to think about letting Malee go.

I mean worse case scenario is you fire Malee and the new hitting coach doesn't help, you're still in the same spot you're in now. The Royals fired their hitting coach midseason last year and went to the World Series with Dale Sveum

I can't see the forest through the trees, seems like they will be struggling forever - which they won't, and they'll come back and start winning some ball games. Is this a character builder?

This is the worst. I'm going to the gold cup finals in Philly. Wearing my cubs hat and the Philadelphia fans are smirking at me. THIS ISN'T HOW IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE

Up until this week, I never realized how popular boat racing was.

So can anyone tell me why we hired Mallee in the first place? The Astros were last in BA in the American League with him last season and seems like he brought the same mojo to Chicago

He was credited by many Marlins players as pretty valuable, including Gincarlo Stanton, who said Mallee helped develop him.

ETA: I'm not defending or praising him. Just giving the info. I personally don't think hitting coaches matter one bit.

Are certain posters on timeout? Those who would be feverishly lashing out at the weekend's meatballery? Just curious.

Why would they banned instead of the meatballs?

With the over the top madness that's been the past 3 gamethreads, I would have expected you them to be all over it like a pack of vicious, gif happy jackals.

I mean I just feel sick. Where do we go from here? What do we do?

Fowler and Soler really pissed me the [expletive] off today. LAZY. Soler took his sweet time at least twice getting to hit balls, and pretty much turned two doubles into two triples. Fowler was throwing balls to the cut off guy about as lazily as I've seen. I want someone, Maddon I guess, to lay into them about that [expletive]. That is not Respecting 90.

Personally, I was out of town without easy internet access, but even if I had it why would I (and others) want to wallow in the meat stew? Leave the game threads to the animals.

Umm win tomorrow? I don't know why everyone is so down. This weekend sucked but there are over 2 months of baseball to play and we've seen the team play a lot better than this

Because we're 2.5 out now and there's only two months left, and we're trending downwards. The Peralta game sucked but I wasn't concerned. Now I'm concerned. I know thsi is meatbally but the EFFORT hasnt seemed to be there lately. So many lazy plays especially from the OF. Saying you don't know why we're so down is kind of being willfully ignorant dont you think? We just got swept by the worst team in baseball and the last two weeks have been super mediocre.

1) we were 3 games out last month and won 6 in a row and came back to eventually take a 4 game lead. None of the other 2 teams in the hunt are clearly better than us and I don't see any of the 3 teams pulling away so what's the point of worrying that much in July?

2) Worst team in baseball is 8-1 since the break (5-1 not against us) so obviously a team we caught in a hot stretch while we were in a down stretch. It happens during a long season. The 2006 Cubs were awful but swept the World Series winning Cardinals twice (1 a 4 gamer) during that season. They obviously bounced back. Again it's one series in July. Before that we weren't playing our best but we were still treading water (7-7 in previous 14). Most teams, even the best teams go through periods of mediocre play over a long season. It just happens.

3) don't know much about the effort thing but part of the reason we hired Maddon is because of his successful experience managing a group of young players and keeping their focused on giving effort every day. If there's an issue I'm pretty confident we have the right guy to address it.

Key point is that this is one small stretch in a 162 game season. Every team has peaks and valleys every season and it's not worth getting upset over all that much in July. I'm not saying it doesn't suck but with perspective it sucks a lot less.
