Beginning with Wednesday night's game, they will appear on a national network for nine of their next 14 games.

For the second time in three weeks, ESPN will show the Cubs on "Sunday Night Baseball" this weekend, when they play the Cardinals at Busch Stadium.

ESPN will pick up six of the nine network games, with FOX showing two Saturday games and the MLB Network televising Friday's game at St. Louis, with Bob Costas on the call.

"Bring it on, man," said Cubs manager Joe Maddon. "That's what it's all about. We want that. We've talked about it from Day One. The word 'pressure' is actually a positive. The better we play, hopefully the more people will recognize us.

Do other non-local fans prefer to watch Len and JD on MLBTV, even on delay, over the national guys in those spots, or is that just me?

Not hardly. I mean, slate had a little blurb on the baby-holding foul ball hero from last night's game with video footage from the Dodger broadcast. Very, very different (much more whiny) take from them about the Dad. Obviously I'm biased, but Len and JD are MILES better than any other TV announcing team I've heard this year. I prefer to listen to Len and JD.

You mean you don't want to listen to Bob Costas wax poetically about the Best Fans in Baseball and ESPN dissect every movement by Castro in a negative light?

I do prefer Len and JD, but I'll watch the national broadcasts because that 30 second to 1 minute delay is still kinda annoying

i love len and jd. like a lot. but when we have a national game, i like the change of pace and, when we're good, hearing outsiders heap praise (even if/though they're idiots).

plus i like the bells and whistles that come with a national broadcast.

What's a way to watch games? I decided to get rid of Directv at least until football season and go with Roku all summer.

Apart from MLBTV (which you are late to the game on, and this game might be blacked out on...not sure on that) you could give slingtv a try (to get all of the ESPN streams)

MLBTV and using a friend's cable login to watch games on espn3. not sure if there's a streaming option to watch mlb network games online (i never bothered to look).

I mean, if you're not concerned with legalities, if you google "watch mlb online for free" a whole bunch of sites that stream MLB games show up.

Which network does the weird 3D strikezone from the side? My first thought when I saw it was, "ohhhh, TT is going to HATE that."

Would it be fair to say that the Giants and Mets are the only two teams that are currently a threat from keeping the Cubs outta the Wild Card game? If that game comes up and was tomorrow a do you start a playoff experienced Lester or Arietta who has been lights out at times this year? This is if the Cubs get the opportunity to choose.

There's still a half season to play and the gap isn't so large that the unexpected couldn't happen, but yes. Here's the Fangraphs playoff odds in the NL including today's completed games:

Cardinals 99%

Dodgers 95%

Nationals 95%

Pirates 84%

Cubs 70%

Giants 29%

Mets 17%

No other team is above 7%.

As far as the SP goes, those things largely sort themselves out. There's a chance if the Cardinals run and hide and the Mets/Giants falter that they might have the chance to sort out the rotation to pick their ideal play-in starter, but more likely they'll be playing meaningful games so late that 2-3 options will be unavailable.

Cubs are 8.5 back of the division with 84 games to play.

i'm just not going to think about the gap and keep hoping we win and they lose and see what happens. at least we aren't 11.5 back anymore.

i look at that freaking roster of theirs and i have no idea how they are where they are. it may be good but it's not 51-27 good.

Anyone headed to the game today? I'm traveling solo.. My friends daughter is having an emergency brain surgery up in Minneapolis (prayers).

I'd like to see a 5-4 home stand and go into the break 47-39. Make a couple of moves in July, finish 43-33 and see what 90 wins will do.

This team reminds me of the Royals last year in that both teams hovered in that 5-8 games over .500 all season. . . . .gotta hope the Cubs get hot and finish strong.

I'd rather go with Arrieta, especially if Lester would still require a David Ross start in an elimination game. If the scheduling requires Hammel to get the nod, that wouldn't be bad, either.

I'm still holding out hope on the offense heating up in the 2nd half and making a run at the division.

No, it's not just you.

Guess David likes the bells and whistles that come with replays of Game 6 of the 2003 NLCS.

When the Marlins shortstop threw out Coghlan on an infield grounder yesterday Matt Vasgersian(sp) goes "that's really impressive to throw out a very speedy man." I mean Coghlan isn't slow, but he definitely isn't fast.

I am too. Why do I always do this? :banghead:
