So Wada and La Stella up, Schlitter down, and one of Coke/Jaxon DFA'd.

Bryant is basically the backup outfielder now, so I'm guessing we'll see Lake up and Herrera or Castillo sent out as well.

Got to think it's Coke, little reason to have 3 LHPs in the pen.

With Wood moving to the pen, we have 4 LHPs in the pen.

But that's only 4 of 16

Even though it sucks that it's an off day, at least today will hopefully mark the final day of Schlitter in the organization. There's absolutely no reason why he shouldn't be DFA'd today.

Have we even seen a ground ball from Schlitter yet?

He got a couple yesterday, when we were down by 3 runs and it didn't mean anything.

There are two reasons specifically.

1) DFA doesn't mean released.

2) He can be sent down to AAA without being DFA and there's no roster crunch.

Well if you designate someone for assignment, they're removed from the 40 man roster but I suppose if you want to be technical the Cubs would still have control over him for 10 days. But AAA roster spots are for players who are prospects or serve as depth to the major league roster. Schlitter is neither at this point. There's no reason to waste an Iowa spot on him, let alone a 40 man spot.

How deep do you think the Iowa pen is? It's largely a moot point because hopefully Schlitter will be DFA'd the next time a 40 man spot is needed, but it's also a little silly to be so insistent that Schiltter never be associated with the Cubs organization again immediately.

It's actually pretty deep, plus there are guys like Edwards, Batista, etc. that should be bumped up. I just see no reason to keep the guy.

Officially Coke DFA, Schlitter down. Lake and Wada up.

EDIT: Why would autocorrect even do that?

Do we still have 13 pitchers?

Yes.

But on the bright side, we don't have 14.
