ESPN.com. I remember that dude from Cincinnati, Davemason, and that HTC troll guy (cant remember if thats what it was, I know his name was an ackronym for something Cubs hate related). I was proud that I rescured Soul and told him about NSBB, but he doesn't remember that.

My first post here was minutes before Game 2 of the 2003 NLDS. My first NSBB Cubs meltdown was probably an hour or two later.

It was IHC (I hate Cubs) andytheclown was the worst. I think I called him John Wayne Gacy more than once.

Someone tell me more about this faked death.

This guy named GTZasker or something like that was a semi regular poster at Cubs.com for a couple months. Then one day there's a post by someone claiming to be his brother who posted to tell everyone that the real guy had died in a boating accident over the weekend. There actually had been a boating accident resulting in a fatality the previous weekend. A bunch of people cried bs and started poking holes in the "brother's" story. I have to admit, I told people to shut up because why would anyone fake their own death on a message board?

About 3 weeks later, the guy returns from the dead saying he did the whole thing as a psych experiment for a class he was taking at ... maybe Northwestern or DePaul. This resulted in a long debate over whether that was the real reason he did it. A lot of people were genuinely upset over all of this.

It all seems really silly now.

There was a "girl"(quotes used because I don't know if it was ever verified she was anyone but the same guy) named JamesPeere or JamiesPeere or something, who had posted there for awhile, who'd supposedly met him in real life(I believe this was setup beforehand to sell the story) and confirmed the death to silence the doubters.

I mostly just lurked, but it was pretty weird.

Some similar [expletive] happened over on /r/hockey on reddit. Some reasonably well known poster faked his own death with his "mother" announcing his suicide on his account. The subreddit raised a bunch of money for charity as a result, before finding out it was a hoax.

I was Cubs.com also. Really enjoyed what Tim (SanClementeFan) and MLPeel brought to the discussions. Came over here right away when Tim started it up.

I seem to recall a Dave or David screen name person being involved in the death story, but it's all a bit vague now. Obviously not the David here. Just seemed like there was a Dave that kept stirring things up over the death. Maybe I'm not recalling correctly.

Cubs.com for me.

I used to lurk there a lot, but never posted. I remember the fake death, hogcard's (or whatever his name was) "if zambrano starts your in trouble," and some guy who seemed to have everybody believing (or maybe just me) that he was getting inside info from Hendry or something during the winter meetings one year. He kept teasing that he'd be giving us some major news and then finally admitted he was making it all up.

Only vague recollection of that last one.

Back in college, I posted on cubs.com a bit. There, I ran into folks that complained about all the nsbb posters, so I tried to come over and sign up.

For some odd reason, I never could sign up (to my recollection ... in looking back, my hunch is that the filter on the email system probably deleted it, and I didn't know how to get in touch with people to get on the board).

Forgot all about it, posted on some other sports boards (cubs wise, there was ... uh tcr, sbnation, and uh ... what's the one where there was someone called bob sacamento posting for awhile), and then one year, while I was googling some Cubs stuff, it clicked in my head that the Raisin on sbnation on the Cubs site was probably the same one as the one here, so I sent him an email asking how to actually get on ... and since then, i think this is the only sports board i really sort of check on a regular basis (even though i follow a lot more than just baseball and the Cubs).
