People love to cram their sports into narratives. "The Cubs are rebuilding and young so they have to go step by step in the process" is an easy narrative to understand. Actually analyzing baseball teams is hard and complicated.

also i think people just can't wrap their heads around a lineup full of 22 and 23 year olds being capable of maybe winning 90+ games

So, are the rest of you guys like me:

Told all of your friends that the Cubs were going to be good/fun this year and got extremely skeptical responses?

not from my closest friends

if i say [expletive] like that they know what a [expletive] dork i am about this and know i (kinda) know what i'm talking about

but coworkers and randoms at the game have no idea the dong fury that awaits

Yeah I have some of that. No outright "no way," but it's a lot of "Really? I don't know, man. I hope you're right. That would be awesome."

even my mom still dont believe me lol she says "tell me that in october" ...

and i got kinda trolled hard on facebook

stop talking about baseball on facebook

I just want the highlights on ESPN, but they spent the whole segment making fun of Russell batting ninth, and being shocked the Cubs would win... I hate them.

I think Kyle mentioned it earlier but if Bryant just pulled a Rizzo and decided to stop striking out at the Major League level then omg.

let's not get carried away here

Wow, Schlitter just wrote #wearegood on his twitter too. Ok not really.

schlitter was blaming it on luck after the game

uhh you can't do that when everything is being crushed and you don't strike anybody out dude

On Kris Bryant day I put the game on at work on my computer

Co-worker: The Cubs are terrible.

Me: How so?

Co-worker: Everybody knows that

Me: ok.

Since Theo took over, when people would ask me, I'd say it would be a few years before the Cubs were good. Then over the past couple years I'd say they should start being competitive in 2015. So naturally, last year I would say "they should be pretty good next year."

"LOL! Next year! Typical Cubs fan, you've been saying that every year."

So in answer to your question, I'm not lonely, I *choose* to not have friends.

Last night's Cubs game with @Addison_Russell debut earned the highest ratings on @WGNTV since 2011, the Mike Quade era.

i've gotten the bolded a few times, and then i'll rhetorically ask them when was the last time they remember me saying that

but you guys are weird, i love talking baseball IRL with anybody who's into it; you don't have to be a total nerd about your opinions

I wonder if that counts all the simulcasts around the region?

My two closest friends are Yankee fans so I've heard crap every year dating back to 1983 when we all became friends. For the past few years I've not said a word about the Cubs as I knew they'd be bad. This year, when I started saying that the Cubs would start to be a better team because of Bryant and company they immediately jumped down my throat and claimed I say that every year and that every year the Cubs don't do anything. As a result, we now have a a bottle of Jack Daniels Whiskey and a 12 pack of beer riding on which team finishes with a better record this year. Go Cubs!

Should have gone for Knob Creek. You'll win that bet. Yankees are old and will break down this year, worse than last. Besides, I understand that we are good.

For the love of [expletive], somebody give me back my ability to have sig pics.

Huh? You've had the same "Phil Hartman as Frank Sinatra" sig pic for years
