That's a catch and a fumble. He took two steps while in control of the ball.

Nope

He took his first step while bobbling the ball, then took two more while in possession of the ball. That should be a catch.

"If a player goes to the ground in the act of catching a pass (with or without contact by an opponent), he must maintain control of the ball after he touches the ground, whether in the field of play or the end zone. If he loses control of the ball, and the ball touches the ground before he regains control, the pass is incomplete. If he regains control prior to the ball touching the ground, the pass is complete."

No mention of taking steps

The steps matter because he already caught the ball. He caught the ball, took two steps and had his right elbow hit the ground before his left did and the ball came loose. As far as I'm concerned, by that time, he's no longer in the act of catching a pass. He caught the pass. Which is why if anything, it should have been a catch and he's down by contact when the right elbow hits.

He's going to the ground. I could see if he's upright and taking steps but he's not. He's still heading to the ground.

Look I [expletive] hate it.

Perreira insisting the steps don't matter show how dumb this rule.

Every time they show that catch, it's more and more clear to me that that was a blown call.

Oh no, it was the right call according to the shitty rules.

It's just another glimpse of how out there the rules have become.

PI can't be reliably called. Holding is a crapshoot. Completed catches could go either way depending on a number of things.

Heck, many times the play clock is at zero and no flag. Guys are lined up in the neutral zone, no call.

It's terrible all around

I see three steps and an attempted stretch across the goal line; no idea how that's not "a football move" or whatever the horsecrap requirement is.

I thought it was a catch, but I sure don't mind that it wasn't.

Now I get to watch a Packers' loss while they are underdogs, which is a much more pleasant experience for me.

He also switched hands on the ball on the way down which to me shows possession/complete control.

My thing with the call is that at no point does the ball hit the ground. The ball is dislodged from Dez' hands, but he then catches it again. And he was never out of bounds. Just awful all around.

It was dislodged by the ground.

I have no idea where the controversy is in that play. Blatantly obvious incomplete pass.

The controversy comes from shitty rules that needed to be fixed years ago rearing their ugly heads again.

Having a ball hit the ground and pop up is pretty standard "not a catch" situation. Not sure how you make rules to fix that one.

Do you enjoy being obtuse on purpose? He clearly caught the ball, took a couple steps, and then the ball got dislodged by the ground. It should be a catch if not for idiotic rules, just like the Megatron catch that's been referenced.

It's quite different from megatron. He put the ball down and the bin catch was a technicality. Taking a couple steps means nothing. He lost control of the ball via the ground. That is textbook easy incomplete pass situation. It was obvious live and completely inarguable upon review.

This. I'm obviously glad it was called incomplete, but there was holding all around both sides all game and nothing was called and then they call a hold on a Packers return where there was clearly no holding (unless they got the player's number wrong).

PI calls are a game changer and there is no consistency. Also, the blow to the head of the QB rule during a sack is not consistent. Rodgers got hit hard on the helmet today during a sack, no penalty. That's a 25-yard swing. The PI that setup the Cowboys first TD was not a catchable ball, but that didn't matter. Matthews was clearly held on the third down play right before the Bryant catch/no catch that would have made it 3rd and really long instead of 4th and 2. On Murray's long run that setup Dallas last TD there was an obvious hold at the line that sprung the play.

As a fan of the Packers these stick out to me, but I'm sure Cowboys fans have a list in their minds too. I really think the "All-Star" crews is a bad way to go for the playoffs. Not that the regular season is much better. Really sucks because almost every close game you lose you can look to multiple bad calls and say, "If only that was called correctly." It can make football infuriating.

never did i say it was an incorrect call.

How many steps before it matters? 9? 15? What a stupid rule.

Oh well GB was better and would have gone down and scored again anyway
