My problem with Ballard/Toub would be that it feels like going back to Angelo/Smith. Which like I said, isn't a disaster. But it's just more of the same. It's not going for it...it's familiar.

I get what your saying and agree that I want something else. I just don't see anything interesting in the gm candidates and think it's more of a perception vs reality issue.

So far, I've been disappointed in all the reports on who they're interested in. Kubiak would be fine, not enthusiastic about the FO possibilities.

As there isn't as much rebuilding in football, with that defense, it is a rebuild with the defense and special teams.

Another [expletive] hire and it's 5 more years of crap.

There are no gm studs.

It's the coaching that matters.

It reminds me of USC trying to recreate the Pete Carroll era with less success by hiring Lane Kiffin and then Steve Sarkisian. Of course Carroll had far more success at USC than Lovie did with the Bears.

The Ballard/Toub pairing wouldn't likely be a disaster, but it's the kind of underwhelming hires that would really show that little has changed.

It's what I'm expecting and I will be pretty disappointed.

Nothing says "organizational change from mediocrity" like hiring guys who were a part of the organization during their mediocrity.

Those guys were part of the organization when they were good.

Good? How many rings do they have to show for it? Hell how many playoff appearances? They were not good enough then and likely would not be good enough now.

Rings? lol

You're putting too much of an emphasis on coaching with the current list.

There's no coaching HR either. H arbaugh might've been that but we won't know.

This 1st year is going to require something with Cutler's cap hit and the talent they need to acquire around him. The year after, they'll cut him and go from there.

Coaching isn't just a 2015 offseason thing. This list has nothing to do with it. Coaching is what matters in the nfl. There are no theos.

Im not sure even MLB has a Theo as portrayed.

You're giving GBs credit to McCarthy solely and not their FO to draft and develop from within?

They're the best at it so they are the outlier but you're a fool if youre only giving credit to coaching.

I'm giving GBs credit to having the best QB of all time.

Yea hasn't GB had quite a few draft misses anyways?

Thompson has had his fair share of misses, especially recently. They already cut their 2013 first round pick, Datone Jone. It helps having Jesus incarnate as your QB.

When did they cut Datone???

My mistake, it wasn't him. They cut some some recent high draft pick before the year that was kinda an indictment on Ted being too cute, according to Wisconsin sports radio.

Sherrod?

Yeah, Thompson really needs to avoid drafting guys that end up missing two years due to freak injuries.

Everyone has misses, Thompson included. Thompson also has his fair share of hits, especially recently.

I get your point about the importance of coaching, Jersey, but you've been bitching about bad drafts for a long time...not sure how you can minimize the importance of the GM. Both are important.

Hahahaha.

Are you drunk? Lots of angry drunks in pittstown tonight.

They don't have titles. Lots of good teams don't have titles. Mediocrity is something below what those Bears teams were. Those teams were good, not great. You know this. Although they were great one year.

Point remains, doesn't strike me as a combo likely to be great for a long period of time. Maybe Ballard and Toub having the biggest influences instead of just being part of the group will make the difference from good to great, but I still don't know how an organization can be so upset and make unprecedented changes after 2-3 years and just go back to the way it was 2-3 years ago, to people that worked under guys they determined weren't good enough then.

Kubiak would be a home run. But again, Bears havent ever hired a head coach with previous head coaching experience.

Kubiak is a real head coach, and an offensive genius.

@nfldraftscout: Just heard that Chris Ballard is interviewing for #Bears GM job. If they're smart, they'll hire him. Great eye for talent.

I feel like its very difficult to get a read on Ballard. Some of the stuff I read looks good, other stuff not so much. But "insiders" seem to LOVE him and I don't really understand why.

Someone probably said good things about Emery too, when he was interviewing. I'm not putting much stock in that.

I agree; everyone actually sucks.
