@Johnathan_Wood1: Best as I can tell, these are players picked by Bears under Ballard scouting. http://t.co/n6B9biqile

Very similar to my list though I left out Pac12 schools. I believe there is a separate "West" region from his old Southwest.

It's certainly not conclusive of anything either way though interesting to look at.

I count 12 hits including Knox, Dusty and Benson. All three of those either ended badly due to injury or moved on and had decent careers although its a disappointing decent career to be picked high in the first round like Benson.

I guess the guy can do it but not at Thompson's level.

Give him Aaron Rodgers and he's just as successful.

That's going to be a problem.

I thought coaches that were currently employed couldn't interview until the season ended anyway (with the exception of those having a bye this week)?

They can do whatever they want. A lot don't, citing gameplan stuff....but they can.

Ted Phillips is going to [expletive] up this hire again and there's nothing anyone can do about it. and he'll do it again.

i mean he's truly, honestly, going to go to the [expletive] same exact well again, after an unmitigated disaster, and yet he fears nothing. he'll do what he wants and we all just have to sit around and watch the carnage.

maybe he'll tell Ballard to hire the weirdest [expletive] coach in Canada, too.

is he trying to prove to the media, the fans, and himself, that he's unfireable? unbelievable.

I think it has more do to with Ginny and George McCaskey than Phillips. Phillips is likely hiring whomever he thinks pleases them most, and they crave familiarity as opposed to change and outside the box thinking. Ballard - by virtue of the fact that he was with he org for a dozen years - would thus be the easiest sell and please them.

Angelo didn't work out, Emery was a disaster...I know lets hire a guy that has spend almost his entire career working for those two.

No. The Bears were good when Ballard was here.

It's just an odd narrative to sell to the fan base. If you believe he's the best guy, fine hire him.

I'm unaware of any narrative. Did the Bears release a statement about Ballard?

I don't get what umfan is on about. Presumably, if they believe he's the best guy, they will hire him. All these guys are replacement level. Hire the one with the best relationship with a good coach.

I said hire him if he's the best guy. It's just going to be a hard sell to fans. I realize that doesn't mean anything at all and the Bears shouldn't make decisions based on what the fans want, it was just an observation.
