If my sources are correct, Bud Foster will be the next DC at Texas A&M.

Sounds like Muschamp will end up at South Carolina and Brent Venables at Auburn.

I didn't mean it to sound like I was some big shot. I do know a couple people who can get good info, though. But I'm not some [expletive] posting crap from BR claiming that it's from an inside source either.

I thought the same thing about Barry Alvarez when I saw Andersen was leaving. But I've also heard only that he was a good guy. Very very odd.

the story on Bielema was that he was upset that he couldn't keep assistants because they wouldn't pay them anything.

It looks like Alvarez is going to coach the Badgers again in their bowl game. It must be nice for him to get to coach a game again every couple of years.

Surprising. I would have thought that Wisconsin would have enough money to pay relatively well.

They do, they just don't

Houston interviewed Muschamp for their head coaching vacancy yesterday, but I'm hearing now that Muschamp is withdrawing his name, and the 247 Auburn site is reporting that Muschamp is on the verge of being named AU's defensive coordinator. The announcement will be made this weekend, and he will be bringing former Auburn player and secondary coach at Florida, Travaris Robinson, with him. As far as I'm concerned, this isn't over until a formal announcement is made, but Phillip Marshall sounds pretty confident in this latest report made a few minutes ago.

edit - he's the only one reporting this so far.

second edit - JC Shurburtt now indicating he is hearing the same.

I mean, $1.6M for an assistant is crazy. Very few schools can do that.

But Muschamp would have been crazy to take the Houston job. If he were to flame out there, he wouldn't get another HC job again. Now, he can take all the money that Auburn will throw at him, and someone will take a shot at him again in a few year.

I'm hoping it's Muschamp vs. Smart in a death-match battle for the UGA job when they (finally) get rid of Mark Richt.

Muschamp should have went for the job and south carolina. Would have been a great HC job for him to get the inside track on. Still a big time program but not quite the circus that the other big SEC programs are.

Another Auburn player shot and killed.

http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/ncaaf-dr-saturday/auburn-freshman-jakell-mitchell-killed-134956894.html

Auburn freshman Jakell Mitchell was shot and killed early Sunday morning. He was 18 years old.

Auburn police responded to a call at the Tiger Lodge apartments at approximately 12:25 a.m. The apartment complex is located close to Auburn University. Per Al.com, the shooting happened at the same apartment complex where former Auburn players Ed Christian and Ladarious Phillips were shot and killed at a party in 2012.

I agree on that one. I'm just not sure that Spurrier's ego could have taken on Boom.

It might also be familiarity, since Boom coached at Auburn once before, IIRC.

Dont you basically need to be a firmly entrenched boss to hire a guy like muschamp? Like Saban and Kiffen? Spurrier is probably in the top 2-3 most firmly entrenched coach in the country. In the Jimbo/Saban/Synd strata.

sneaky this is mostly for you, but how legit is mgoblog and their sources? I am not as in the know on Michigan football as I am in other sports, but I read everyday about how their sources make it seem like there is a ton of communication between harbaugh and um and many sources with ties to michigan that they talk to think he's coming to michigan. But then I go to pretty much any mainstream media and they aren't even talking about it or if they are they are saying harbaugh said he wasn't going back to college. Where is the truth?

To me, I want to believe its true but I have a hard time seeing him go back to college. At the same time, the fact that there's been almost no buzz on UM's coaching search and of course no hire, makes me feel like there's no way he's given them a definitive no at this point.

Auburn is going to be a real threat now too. He will win a NC at Auburn before he ever would have at SC.

i trust Brian Cook over everyone

he explains his reasoning, though; saying it can reasonably be inferred that the complete lack of activity on our end so far speaks volumes that we haven't been told 'no' by Harbaugh yet

No doubt. That's a powerhouse team.

From a fan of a team in another conference, I'm glad they are in the same division as Bama.

It wasn't a surprise to me. It really wasn't. I didn't really have any relationship with the AD. The guy — you guys saw him (Sunday) — the guy's a total p----. I mean, he is. He's a total c---.

...

But at the end of the day, what I wanted to make sure, if there was gonna be a change, that I would have time to get on my feet. They gotta pay me. They gotta pay our assistants over the next — they have time to get jobs.

But at the end of the day, fellas, if they weren't gonna support us. ... And I said what I said to him and I'll tell you what I told him. When I went in there and he said, "We are gonna make a change," and I said, "All right." I said, "You are gonna honor my contract?" He said, "Yeah." I said, "You are gonna honor my assistant coaches' contracts?" He said, "Yeah." And I said, "Well, I think it's the best for both of us. Because if you aren't gonna support us, then it's probably best for everybody involved that we part ways."

And that's how I felt. And then I told him, I said, "Hey, listen."

And he goes, "Well, I disagree that I haven't supported you."

And I said, "Hey bud, you can't support somebody underneath a f------ rock." I said, "To do your job at this level, at a place like this, you gotta be a grown a-- f------ man to lead something." I said, "You can't lead anything under a f------ rock." I said, "You don't spend any time with us. Our players don't even know who you are." And I said, "That isn't leadership."

...

But, no, there was no such meeting, ever. I gotta tell you guys — my relationship with the guy over the last — (since) spring until now I saw him probably seven or eight times for about 20 minutes over a six-month period. So, you know. Like I said, he would not know what my core values were because he never really took the time to understand it. And, to be honest with you, I didn't really give a f--- if he knew what my core values were or not. I don't give a s--- what that guy thinks. Because I have no respect for him. Right, wrong or indifferent, that's how I am.

If I was gonna deal with you guys, I was gonna do the best job I could and whatever happens happens. I have been in this profession a long time and I have seen some crazy s---. I saw a Super Bowl coach — I was gone by then — get fired. I was with Pete Carroll in New England when we had won the division two out of three years and he got let go. I was here in 2003 when they did this to Frank. I've been around the block long enough to know that at some point there was probably going to be — that it wasn’t going to work out, because we are different people. I'm not somebody who is going to sit there and get along to get along when I don't believe in something that's going on. I am going to speak my mind, and that probably bothered him and bothered the chancellor.

What you guys saw in that meeting – I am sure you guys walked out of there, and you're all smart guys who have been around — and I'm sure and your gut told you certain things. Trust your gut, because your gut's right. I could have — not knowing how it was going to go — when he told me he would meet with you guys at 8 o'clock, I think he said "I'm going to meet the players later on today," and my first thought was: "Well, that ain't going to go real well." Because I knew he wouldn’t handle it the right way. I heard he brought security with him? (Laughing) C’mon man. I mean, s---, fellas, look who he circles himself with. Look at his team of people. C'mon, man. I’d rather f------ work at McDonald’s than work with some of those guys. Not that there's anything bad about working at McDonald’s.

I am not going to walk in here and toe the company line. I wanted to bring you in and tell you what went down. And the way it was going down and where my mindset was. Let me tell you, fellas, this is for real. If it wasn’t for you guys and the coaches and their families, I would have resigned a year ago. Because there was some things that were going on that were making me miserable. And all the money in the world ain’t f------ worth that. And that's the truth.

now he's going to work for jim tressel. i think we can safely say that youngstown state will be class personified, on and off the field.

Ouch. Orange Bowl tickets are averaging 5 dollars. Combining Mississippi State who doesn't travel well at all and Georgia Tech who has a fanbase of dorks who don't care about sports for the most part and you have a disaster.
