I forgot what writer suggested that the Blue Jays would have Martin spend some time at DH, which, LOL

Not sure I get the LOL. I assume the DHing would be to get him in the lineup for ~150 games

Because I'd imagine/hope your regular DH should be a better option than Russell Martin, a guy who gets a huge chunk of his value from defensive contributions at a premium position.

The average AL DH hit .249/.319/.424 last year. Only three teams got an 800 OPS from the DH slot.

Sure, ideally you'd want somebody who can hit better than Russell Martin as your everyday DH. But in reality Martin would be fine hitting at DH on days when he's not catching for most teams.

That blows my mind. And I thought I had fully adapted to deadball 2014 numbers.

@pgammo

@Ken_Rosenthal You were right on Toronto, as ever, according to my latest text

@pgammo

@Ken_Rosenthal Martin will be a huge sign for Jays

Ken Rosenthal ✔ @Ken_Rosenthal

To those asking: @pgammo is merely saying what I reported last night - that #BlueJays are a player for Russell Martin.

I love that Rosenthal has to clarify Gammons tweets for him.

Whelp, they can have him at that price.

Tired of this refrain.

You are upset the Cubs didn't beat 5yr/$80mil?

I'm more worried about the years than the per year money. Toronto got him for more or less the same per year. But that fifth year will be nightmarish...

I'd have been fine with that, yes.

That's how you get free agents. It's not some crazy insurmountable amount for an above average starter.

Meh. I don't really like Martin all that much. I just don't want to get nothing.

If this happens and we miss on Lester, then I'll go into meltdown mode. For now, I'll put it on standby.

Meh. Or it might not be. And the team should have a higher payroll by then. And $16M in 2019 dollars will probably never be nightmarish, even if he Jacksons.

Basically if it's just an extra year at the same rate we were discussing for a four year deal I'd be a little annoyed, but it really comes down to what else they do. If we have a clean sweep of missing FA over a bunch of extra one years or minimal cost/year figures I'll be definitely disappointed.

That's disappointing but that's not a good contract and Id rather not have him for that.

The pursuit of Martin had me reading up on pitch framing to the point that I'm pretty convinced that Castillo's is a major problem for us.

Please get Montero, if possible
