Brett is claiming sources saying it's done

It’s been days in the making, and the only thing holding up Chicago Cubs’ fans’ confidence that the move would happen was a history of being burned. But there has been a consensus on this for a long time, and Jon Heyman just reported it: Joe Maddon will be the next Cubs manager.

If you need additional emotional security, I’ve now been told by multiple sources that this is a done deal.

This is a big deal. This is legitimately exciting. You are allowed to be excited.

lol, Brett edited it to:

I guess his "sources" changed their tune once his other "sources" on Twitter say it wasn't quite done yet.

Eh, I believe Brett has sources. He's been at it long enough and probably has a good enough reputation as a writer/blogger to meet people who know things.

Now Loxas on the other hand, he's full of [expletive].

I don't believe he has much more than the twin doofuses Loxas and Arguello. And he's being totally intellectually dishonest as he's edited his original message again but now has this listed up top.

[Many updates below, which you'll want to check out. I'll leave the text of the original post in place for posterity, but this is not a done deal. Not yet.]

The way he keeps making ninja edits doesn't help his credibility.

ETA: made worse by the UPDATES he keeps making, which implies that the rest of the text is unchanged.

Gary Jones (third base/infield coach) seems like the only coach directly tied to Renteria. Everyone else seemed like more of a FO pick. I could see a new 3B coach and whatever that Castro guy did, but I bet most of the coaches stay on.

Coaching staff will be interesting. Obviously they like Bosio. Just hired Mallee and Hinske turned down an opportunity to become the Yankees hitting coach to stay as asst. hitting coach.

For what it's worth, that edit was to clarify that I was using "done deal" colloquially, not as synonymous with "official" (the edit happened within minutes - I was typing the original post very quickly and trying to think very quickly). I didn't want folks to think this was being "announced" by the Cubs on the day of Game 7. The rest of the post probably made that clear, but I wanted to make absolutely certain since sometimes isolated sections of posts are snipped out for discussion.

EDIT: What I mean is, I don't think that was a substantive edit. That's what the updates are. I added a note to the intro on the post to indicate there have been edits.

So the Rays apparently told their coaches they'd be retained a day or 2 ago, should we assume we keep everyone else?

Yeah, I think it'll work well in that regard. No 'my people' to bring along, and then after this year they can evaluate if they want to keep working together(except for Bosio, he stays forever).

Renteria can stay on as bench coach, learn at the feet of the master and then take over.

Baseball works like a made up video game, right?

Thanks for clarifying Brett

Stupid Sexy Flanders nice guy Brett

You made a legitimate point (even if I had, I think, a good explanation for what I did), and I appreciated the opportunity to clarify. I really do try to be SUPER transparent about this stuff. To me, that's the right thing to do, and, to be completely honest, it's also good business.

EDIT (I just can't help myself ... I edit a lot): I also meant to say nice reference. Feels like I'm wearing nothing at all.
