Week 7: Dolphins (2-3) @ Bears (3-3) Noon, CBS/780

PFF seems far too kind to Cutler, Greene, McClellin and Mills.

Greene is such a disappointment. Athletically he has everything he needs. Apparently its intellect that he is lacking.

A 4th round pick out of Rutgers, he's not that much of a disappointment.

I mean it in terms of his athletic ability, but yeah, he's still a 4th rounder.

After last year, I thought he needed to lose 10-15 lbs and convert back to a SS. He needs to be back there so the play is in front of him most of the time.

That seems like a pie in the sky hope. Just let him be a ST. That's still a potentially okay net return from the investment.

To be fair, Greene was pretty good last week. But he's probably best in that role as a backup and an emergency starter. I like Bostic as the WLB next year, with Jones as the SLB. They need to get a Mike LB though, Sharpton could be in the mix or maybe Jones can play there. But McClellin and Greene shouldn't be starters for a legit NFL team.

Trestman: "We're not here to build a leadership team, we're here to build a team of leaders."

Somebody stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night.

What exactly is going on there? You could draw a 12 yard circle around that dude. How exactly do you leave the middle of the field open like that? If they roll like that against Tom Brady next week, they are going to get eviscerated. If they don't turn it around soon, I hope this was just a 2 year experiment with the Trestman era.

That is the one where I said it looked like an AI glitch earlier in the thread.

Greene was sitting in the zone across the middle right where he should be for that play, and then suddenly after two seconds or so he just randomly decided to turn his back to the play and run 8 yards back to give double-team help on some guy just outside of this picture.

I made the mistake of listening to local sports radio today. I knew it'd just get me mad.

They can't go three seconds without saying the word "leadership." Because every single person who covers sports in this town is a lazy idiot.

It is a @#$#@$ football game, not a contest of personalities. They are losing football games because of football reasons.

@BearReport: Jay Cutler has been sacked 17 times this season. Was sacked 19 times total last year. #Bears

Sure they could use an MLB but I wouldn't complain if they add a guy like Shaq Thompson.

When the coach keeps saying it though, it validates them talking about it.

Most of that has happened pretty recently too, right? Seems like going into the Jets game I looked at the sack numbers, and they were pretty ok.

In an ideal world Mike LB and RT would be 1-2 (or vice versa) in this next draft. Though I'll take BDPA and RT and still be happy.

I think DE and S might be just as big a need as MLB.

Mock draft time: http://mweb.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/nfl-draft-scout/24759996/mock-draft-defensive-linemen-williams-gregory-lead-off

Bears go with Michigan State DE Shilique Calhoun at 12. Apparently they're too good for Landon Collins (7), Shawn Oakman (8), Dante Fowler (10) and Shaq Thompson (11).

Luke Joeckel sucks, and Jake Matthews sucks, yet i still keep seeing Cedric Ogbuehi mocked in the top-5, likely to happen because NFL GMs never learn

I can buy that. I don't want to waste tons of resources on LB either way but one elite fixture in the middle would be great if one is there. Can't complain about going DE or even DT though.

You could also argue for Best OL available and move Long to RT though all things equal I leave him where he is.

I'm guessing we won't have cap space for any big FA signings. Anyone know?

Yeah, that would largely depend on Bostic being able to play MLB. I don't know that he gets a chance this year, even if Williams gets benched because Sharpton appears to be next in line. But yeah, Shaq might be more of what this team needs with his speed.

And Ogbuehi is worse in college than Joeckel or Matthews (I think Matthews can turn it around). He's already allowed 7 sacks this season.

How many are from Mills or Ola?

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Ola 2

Mills 2.5

http://stats.washingtonpost.com/fb/playerstats.asp?id=26786&team=3

For reference:

Bushrod 1, DeLa Puente 2, Garza 0, Long 0, Slauson 0.5

That only adds up to 8. I guess the rest are from backs/TE? Not sure how the stats work. If so, that's a concern.

I don't know how the stats work either, but I guess potentially there are coverage sacks that don't get pinned on one OL guy getting "beaten"?

Probably. This directionally points toward Ola and Mills being the worst of the linemen, at least in pass protection.

I'm cool with best OL available. In fact, I think I'd prefer a guards because you can get effective guards after round one and you can kick Long out to tackle where you hope he'll eventually play.

I just want speed on the defense, preferably up the middle as you said. This defense looks so slow and old. I know we have holes all over the defense and at RT but we might need to also look into a WR to replace Marshall soon Heck, I wouldn't mind some speed on offense too.

No idea on the cap space but given how many elite defenders could hit free agency this offseason, the Jared Allen signing looks horrible.

Suh is the only one I know of and I have a feeling he won't be worth the cap hit.

Besides Suh, Gerald McCoy, Justin Houston, Nick Fairley, Chris Harris, Brian Orakpo and Jason Pierre-Paul. Darrelle Revis has a player option and Greg Hardy is also a free agent if he's allowed to play.

Obviously a few will re-sign; Earl Thomas and Richard Sherman already did.
