I still say I'd rather have Shields at 4/70 to 4/80 over Price 7/180 and Zimmerman/Shark/Cueto 6/130+ type deals.

I concur with goony.

I want them all. And I want them now.

I want the world, I want the whole world. I want to lock it all up in my pocket, it's my bar of chocolate!

Give it to me now!

If the Cubs were able to deal away Wood and Castillo to the Phillies for prospects that would save 7.785M this year. If they were able to eat half of Edwin's remaining 2/22 deal they could save 5.5M more this year. That means with the previously saved 13.285M, payroll only has to go up about 5M this year to land Shields, assuming 4/72. I don't see how they aren't all in on it.

Going into the season with a Lester, Arrieta, Shields, Hendricks, Hammel rotation would be glorious.

Are the Phils going to be trading prospects? Even mid level ones? Shouldn't they be trying to shed payroll?

Neither Welly or Wood would be long term money commitments. Welly could be a nice steal depending how how much (or how little) your org values pitch framing. Wood could be flipped if he rebounds back more towards 2013 level performance.

If we don't end up with either Shields or Hamels (for whatever reasons) I'd see if those two for Cliff Lee would work. Phillies would save about $17-18mm this year.

I'm trying to not get overly excited about the idea of landing Shields and Theo still having Wood/Castillo to flip for Prospects to use in July.

I'm not sure mop-up reliever and 3rd string catcher will have a ton of value.

Come on national sports writers... I NEED UPDATES DAMNIT

It'd be nice to hear from somebody to help corroborate.

Seriously. Actually kinda surprised no one has checked in at this point.

I'd happily take Zach Eflin and or Matt Imhoff for them.

I think Shields is getting a 5 year deal no matter what. It's just a matter of grinding out the most money.

I did hear a rumor that he rejected a 5year 110MM offer because he didn't like the team, so who knows.

Whoops, misread that, thought you were saying trade Wood/Castillo in July, after they farted in the corner of the dugout for 4 months.

Still not sure we can get much of value.

Which was obviously [expletive].
