My feeling currently is the same unfortunate one I always have when going after big names: No shot whatsoever from the time we're first mentioned, up until the day they're rumored to sign. Where I get optimistic enough to where it hurts when they go elsewhere.

FWIW, Olnley was just on ESPN saying that a deal is imminent with the Dodgers, Red Sox, Cubs and Giants in the running. He seemed to linger on the Giants' chances a bit more than anyone else.

So did Nightengale

I am starting to hate SF as much as hate the Cards.

Let's not go that far

[expletive] Will Clark, reason enough to hate the Giants.

he literally ruined my childhood:

Hes also a miserable human being.

Yup. He and Palmeiro hated each other, and rumor had it that it was well-deserved in both directions. Edited by RynoRules

I have serious irrational hate for all members of the 84' Pads and 89' Giants, especially Garvey and Clark (the resemblance is uncanny, BTW). For some reason as a group the 89' Giants bother me more. Clark was just a prick, and I couldn't stand Butler, Thompson, or Williams either. Roger Craig looked like he wore a white robe on off-days.

I hate 84 more than 89 but both were gut punches. I am 37 now, so my memories were fairly vague of 84 but I still to this day remember my dad saying "[expletive] 1969 all over again" "[expletive] Leon Durham". In 2003 I said something similar about Alex Gonzalez.

37? I'm 41 and I sometimes get '84 & '87 events mixed up. I remember being more excited for '84 probably because the Cubs hadn't been division winners prior in my lifetime. Also the 1983 White Sox just happened.

I just temember the John Rocker incident and Clark's attempt to intimidate Jeff Pearlman.

47.

1984 was crushing as it was senior year in high school and I pretty much lived and died with the Cubs that summer. Our math teacher brought in a portable tv (black and white with rabbit ears!) to watch game 1. When that first inning happened everyone thought the Cubs were going to the series.

89 sucked hard also, but it wasn't as soul crushing for me.

87 Dawson won MVP on a last place team. Even though they stunk still a fun summer. Was that the year Dawson got plunked in the face by Eric Show(sp?) and charged the mound?

Tweet from someone who interviewed the Giants' pitching coach just now:

Evans on Jon Lester "the sense i get is there's some heart strings pulling, I don't feel like we're in the strongest position"

How old are you guys?

A good bit older than you, apparently.

Depends on his serial #

that won't tell us how long his neural net processor has been functional
