If he moves an OF (when) he wants to move one of the ones with a big contract, even if he has to eat money. He's not looking to move Van Slyke.

He can do both if he wants. Trading Van Slyke and one of the high priced guys(let's call it Kemp), he still has Crawford, Puig, Ethier, and Pederson in tow.

Sure, if someone blows him away, but what's his motivation? Van Slyke is pretty good, he's cheap, he can play all 3 OF positions, and he's the least likely to bitch about not playing every day.

Depending on your perspective you can put varying weights on any of these, but there's several motivations. They have 6 MLB OFs and only room for 3-4 to peacefully coexist. Van Slyke is probably the highest probability to lose a ton of trade value if you hold on to him and want to deal him later. Van Slyke's MLB success and team control makes him viable to a larger number of teams than Crawford/Kemp/Ethier/Pederson do individually. Friedman may have a mandate to cut payroll so trading Van Slyke may be one of a few chances to fill one of their biggest holes(C, SS, RP).

That's not at all to say Van Slyke is a goner, there's a number of outcomes where he stays a Dodger. But there's also more than a few where he's logically sent packing, even if one of the mega-contract OFs get traded too.

With the Russell martin signing, How about this 3 way trade with the Astros and tigers

-Tigers receive Chris Corporan and Brian Schlitter

-Astros receive Luis Valbuena

-Cubs receive Alex Avilia.

I saw a proposal like this on bcb and thought this was much better fit than Montero from the D-backs

A climbing K rate that is starting to enter Javy territory and one foul tip away from retirement. I'll pass on that.

I like Avila okay as a trade target, but Valbuena is a better player under team control for longer, plus I doubt the Astros would be overly interested in him.

btw, welcome!

From MLBTR:

Both center fielder Dexter Fowler and catcher Jason Castro are available in a deal and the Astros wouldn’t mind dealing for bullpen help. Fowler had a decent year and enjoyed more success as a right-handed hitter. The 28-year-old (29 by Opening Day) slashed .327/.419/.467 as a right-handed hitter but hit just .260/.361/.376 from the other side of the plate. Evan Drellich of the Houston Chronicle has heard that the asking price is high on Castro and that there aren’t any contract talks currently taking place between the two sides.

Fowler would be a decent trade target. He'll be 29 years old next year, still controllable, and would open up the option of Alcantara being used as a super sub or in a deal for pitching.

FWIW, Fowler is a free agent after this year.

If he doesn't cost much, I'd be all for it.

damn, I liked his splits against rhp and thought he'd be a good platoon partner with beefy at a fraction of the cost of Montero. I didn't see

the k%. The last thing this lineup needs is two starters that k at that rate.

Fowler's numbers are awesome.

He's a platoon player who is slightly above-average at best. And he really isn't much of a CF.

I have to imagine his market value is probably out of whack with his production. He's probably not worth what it'll cost to bring him in.

I think Fowler's better than that(you have to be a heck of a platoon hitter to hit .270/.375/.400 overall the last 2 years), but the bigger obstacle is that there simply is no 'buy low' in Luhnow's dictionary. Zero confidence there'd be a reasonable price to be had, same goes with Jason Castro too.

A's are dangling LH bats.

Would a package of Jaso, Reddick, Pomeranz for Valbuena, Vogelbach?

Helps out OF, Platoon with Castillo and potential SP?

I'm not sure you can get any 1 of those guys for Valbuena and Vogelbach.

How so?

He has a .259/.356/.414 career line vs RHP and a .299/.391/.433 line vs LHP. His BB% rate is essentially the same vs both, he k's about 4.5-5% more vs RHP.

The overall league slash line this year was, .251/.314/.386

Jaso would be a good pickup.

Jaso vs. RHP .272/.368/.424/.793

Castillo vs. LHP .306/.373/.472/.845

Marlins potentially looking for 1B platoon with Jones. Could Olt and prospects get Eovaldi(

If that prospect is Baez or Russell, sure

uhhh wat?

Posted
Mike Olt's trade value is a sack full of yen and a one way plane ticket.

yeah, the first post was insanity but suggesting acquiring eovaldi would require russell is kinda nuts too.

I think the implication was that Olt is so bad he would negate much of Russell's value.
