Sahadev Sharma was just on The Game and suggested that Theo and Co. could be showcasing Javy for a potential Stanton trade. I hadn't considered that, and I'm not sure how I feel about it.

Not specifically Stanton, but the thought did cross my mind today. But there's just no way to predict what trades they may make. I'll just worry about that when they happen or at least are heavily rumored.

I don't think Javy is a guy you want to put in the majors to showcase for a trade because his weaknesses are bound to be magnified in these next few months.

If we trade off prospects, let it be from some package of a few of Almora, Schwarber, Vogelbach, McKinney and Villanueva. That's still better than the vast majority of teams have to offer.

In the spirit of comparing players per the Baseball-Reference site, what would everyone's top 10 comparable list look like for Javy as of today?

Is Pedro Alvarez a bad comp? Big time power, passable defense, lot of strikeouts.

100% agree. To me, we have 5 pretty much untouchable players.

I'm all about a Stanton trade (obviously), but I would rather they move Russell.

 

Then again, that's been my MO since the Russell trade, but given recent performances of all our guys and them showcasing their potential, I would be perfectly fine if they didn't trade for Stanton and kept our best guys instead. And as much as I want Stanton, I only want him if an extension is agreed to prior to the trade. If he insists on testing FA, then don't trade for him and just [try to] sign him when he hits the market the following offseason.

 

But this team's future with or without Stanton is still going to be ridiculous. If they sign Rusney Castillo I could see them using Alcantara as a headliner in an attempt to nab him without giving up one of the big 4.

Yeah but if all three end up as busts the farm team is still stacked enough to trade for him -and none of them need to be "as" good as Stanton - if they were closer to competing I think I'd be more on board - I'd wait a year at least and see what develops.
