Cool, glad to see Stinnett get a few token innings over the rest of the season.

Geez, quite a difference between Underwood's ERA and his FIP.

Since July 1st,

Javier Baez, Kris Bryant, Jorge Soler, and Addison Russell have combined to go:

127 for 413, with 28 doubles, 37 HRs, 47 BBs, and 108Ks. For a line of .308/.386/.644. OPS of 1.030! 11.4 BB/AB.

I'm sure this was touched on in yesterday's thread but I'm still so annoyed at that rainout in Charlotte. What the hell were they thinking?

Frustrating that Paniagua got to face one pitcher before the game was suspended.

Started a game in the rain. It didn't stop. The game got called after 7 pitches (I believe) because the field wasn't in shape to play because the tarp wasn't down in a timely manner. Complete jackassery.

Sorry, actually not sure how many hitters. But there was the Cubs 1/2 inning at bat (3 up, 3 down), then Paniagua warming up and pitching to 1 batter before it got called. At the very least, Paniagua warming up and starting his inning should have been avoided.

That's what really pissed me off. How long will he have to wait before starting again?

Presumably he would have been warming up while the Cubs were hitting, or actually before. Once you get that far he's not starting the next day.

You're right - 7 pitches, three batters in the top of the inning an one in the bottom.

Am I alone in being totally happy/fine with Javy finishing out the AAA season at Iowa?

You're not, I don't want to see Javy in Chicago until late April. I think I may be in the minority on that front.

I'd rather do that than a September callup.

Yeah call him up right now, or wait until next year

I think keeping him down is a waste of development time towards 2015, but that looks like what they're going to do. No reason to call him up in September.

"Right now" has been a bit of a moving target.

McLeod was relatively explicit that Stinnett was not expected to pitch in game action this season, between his innings already logged, being very new to pitching, and the Cubs wanting to work with him outside of competitive play on their 'plan' for him.

I said this in another thread but it got lost in the argument about the rebuild...

So, the argument that most use against waiting only 10 days to call a guy up (to get the extra year) is that it would be too obvious what the intentions are and that the players association would be pissed I guess and that this is why teams wait a little longer, like May, to call them up.

That said, when guys have already had service time in the past, it doesn't seem that uncommon to do it right after the the date when they can no longer accrue enough service time in a given season to lose the year (like with Rizzo being called up basically a day or two after his date passed, which also happened to be the "magical" 600 PA barrier IIRC).

These two things seemingly being the case, can't you let him waste some service time this September and still call him up around the same time you would've called him up had you left him in Iowa all year, since teams waste a couple weeks before really calling them up anyway?

And risk that he does well, and has another hot spring and makes it very difficult to justify putting him back in AAA? What for?

To give him a taste of actual MLB pitching for a while. I don't think we should really care about having to justify moves to the fan base and media, should we?

I'm with you. Unlike Bryant and Soler, I think the more reps Javy gets in the minors, the better.

But I've always been conservative on promoting minor leaguers.

I don't care as much about Javy starting opening day as I do Bryant and Soler. ESPECIALLY Soler.

Bryant being a Boras client makes me want to squeeze every ounce of service time out of him that we can.
