Zach Duke had a stretch of 2.0, 2.1, .5, 1.8, 2.0 fWAR from 2005-2009. I'd gladly take a stretch like that from Hendricks

Yeah, it's weird that Law seems to be approaching this like, "ah-HAH!!! Hendricks probably won't be amazing long term, so therefore he will be NOTHING! MUAHAHAHHAAH!" Nu-Zach Duke would be fine by me.

I don't think he thought he would be nothing, just that he's never going to be better and will settle in to normalness after, which is fine with me.

Q: Are we currently seeing the limit of Kyle Hendricks? Could his intelligent approach and ability to mix in all of his pitches help his sustain his early success?

Klaw (1:19 PM)This is it. Happens all the time. Remember Zach Duke's rookie year? 84 innings, 1.81 ERA, 3.00 FIP. Hasn't had a full-season ERA under 4 since.

He'd be an interesting bullpen option for a couple million bucks, kinda like when they first got him.

That's what I'm picturing. We wouldn't be looking at him as a starter. At least I hope not.

Surely we have enough relief depth that we don't want anything to do with that annoying gas can.

Tired :(

All trolling aside - you really dont think being a student of the game, smart, however you want to say it.....doesn't help?? I think intuition and critical thinking are valuable traits in any job. I know you can't quantify it, but it does make an impact to me.

Being "smarter" certainly seems like it CAN help, but seeing it tossed out there like it's the key reason he's finding success just seems silly.
