Considering we literally just got information that makes our deal for Addison Russell and Billy McKinney look even better than it already did (not to mention Rizzo), bold move to say this is his favorite deal under Theo.

Can you elaborate further for those of us who do not have time to hunt for this wonderful news?

The fact that 1.3 years of David Price just got acquired for Austin Jackson and Drew Smyly

That's not actually the deal. The Rays got Smyly, Franklin and 18-year-old, highly touted SS Willy Adames. Addison Russell is still easily the best player among those three but let's talk about what we're talking about here...

The Tigers gave up those two players (and, fine, Willy Adames) and got David Price. That's what I'm talking about. I'm not talking about what the Rays got. I'm just talking about what the Tigers gave up.

Ahh, gotcha. Yeah, I'm really enjoying these moves the Cubs are making. I'm curious how difficult it will be for the Cubs to protect all of these prospects this offseason on the 40 man roster.

Not difficult, considering they just opened up a couple more spots.

Even factoring in Adames, our return is far better. Adames just makes it slightly less lopsided.

It was confusing because if we're comparing it to what Theo got, then we should be looking at what the Rays got not what one of the teams in a three team deal gave up.

But yeah, even if we compare what the Rays got to what we got, I'd say we got a better return for our inferior package.

I guess I was just thinking of it from a Tigers vs. A's perspective. You're right that it makes more sense to look at the return given what Andy was saying.

I'm typing on my phone, which I hate doing, so sorry about the bad spelling and so forth. That said, I saidit was relative to the talent involved. The Shark trade was great, but it sort of should be (and yes, I think that trade shows the benefit of striking early these days. I don't think the Price trade is bad (Adames C

Could be special). That said, I really like Caratini. I think he can stick behind the plate and I think he'll develop some pop and hit enough. For Rusell, Bonifacio, and cash ... I think this is an awesome return that I did not expect. I think he's top 20 with a chance to be top 15, maybe borderline top10 in our system.

Wow. I respect your opinion more than most on this site when it comes to prospects. What makes you so high on Caratini? Have you seen him a lot? Hearing things from other scouts? Just curious...

Perhaps even more so now, considering Hammel is 0-4 with a 9.53 ERA and a 2.12 WHIP in 4 starts for Oakland.

I'm interested to see where Caratini gets assigned. He's currently at A ball, which would imply Kane County. But we've got Brockmeyer and Remillard there (and should have Zagunis there). We've got Contreras and Schwarber at Daytona. I guess Krist could get the axe.

We've suddenly got a fairly crowded catcher situation in A ball.

I've seen him ranked as high as 4th on some Braves prospect lists with him BA having him 8th. Thats a really good get for utility infielder free agent and an average loogy.

Defensive skills is simply based off what's out there. It's early in the transition, but looks good so far. Bat wise, have heard a lot of positives on handle and approach, but keep hearing he shows more power in BP. To be fair, really far away, so a lot can go wrong, but that far away allows for some positive dreaming, and even if 50% comes true, that's a lot to be excited with. I think that

One of the beat guys said he's going to Kane County.

I think this is a solid return for what we gave up. I would probably slate him somewhere between 20-25 in our system, which is saying something. Our catching depth looks a lot better at the lower levels than it did 6 months ago with Schwarber (possibly), Caratini, Remillard, Zagunis, Contreras, Marra, etc. Hopefully one can turn into a first division type and fill the position cheaply and effectively for several years.

It'll be interesting to see how they manage playing time. Pretty much a sure thing Zagunis stays at Boise now, though.

How is the Braves system ranked? I can't see Caratini cracking our top 20, which isn't a complaint.

Law had them 22nd before this season.

Caratini's ranking for me will be wildly swayed by what I hear about his defense the rest of the year. If he looks to be a potential asset at catcher, he's top 15. If he's an iffy 3B at best, then he's struggling to stay top 25-30.
