the downside if bryant fails is we're [expletive] as a franchise. the upside is brett might choke to death on his lame ass #sparkle nonsense

Is it me or has he become nearly impossible to follow on Twitter with those junior high hash tags?

how do you guys read these idiots

Brett's not that bad, he just aims for broad appeal and is a bit of an apologist.

I pretty much don't read Parks anymore.

Brett is dying to come up with a thing. The stupid Hulk stuff for Schwarber and the painfully unfunny #FireTheo

I think this is the most annoying aspect, brett is a total try hard

Besides, I was the one who asked Parks how many things Baez had to smash before he declared him Hulk.

i don't really see what brett belongs to the table. he doesn't provide "inside" information (does he?), and there are like 10 people on nsbb alone that i would rather read analysis from. he's just kind of the head of the cubs fan club.

i think he does a very nice job of rounding up news concisely and his sight ends up being a good one stop shop if you need it. but agreed that he doesn't bring much to the table in terms of analysis or entertainment.

...no

Brett's analysis is straight from the rob neyer 2002 message board. Bunts are always the devil, pitch counts over 100 will single handedly ruin your career, WAR X > WAR Y, X is obviously better (this was previously win shares).

I was around Brett on a different message board dating back to when he was in law school. He was one of the most knowledgable posters on that site and he certainly caters to the masses now. As would just about anyone, when you're trying to make money. He knows more than he writes, I'll positively vouch for that.

Honestly, who the hell do you guys read? Is there a single person that doesn't suck ass? Everyone has little things that can get annoying-I get that. But it honestly seems like some of you hate everything.

I don't really read much sports media anymore. ESPN.com was amazing when I first discovered wasting time on the internet, and being able to access Chicago papers while living in NY was pretty cool. I used to read whatever Bruce Miles wrote but after the paywall went up that barely happened. Nobody has anything unique or interesting to say and it's all just restating the same thing. It's barely distinguishable from talk radio. I do follow some people on twitter to keep track of what is being discussed, but that is almost always the extent of my interest.

That makes sense. And anything that goes on shows up here within seconds anyway. If guys never go anywhere other than here, I understand that completely.

As far as the blogs go, I think Brett is a one-stop, see everything going on type. He also has Sharma write for him some, which is good, I think he's the single best Cubs writer out there. I don't follow his minor league guy at all, but that's just me.

I may be one of the few, but I like Arguello's minor league stuff a lot. The rest is iffy, at best, but his minor league stuff is very solid.

The CCO has its uses too. They're the only blog out there that basically posts full transcripts anytime a Cubs official is on the air. Granted, our guys are the masters at saying nothing, but I read it all anyway.

I'll have to give Obstructed View a shot, have not really looked at their stuff unless it was linked into my Twitter timeline.

Most sports media is hot garbage that just repeats the same shreds of info and rumors a billion times over. It's barely a step up from the discussions here and often times much, much worse (BCB).

Brett is a good writer, but the apologist thing is dead-on and most of the time he's just putting up Cliff's Notes-summaries of other people's reporting/posting. It's useful, but he's not really breaking any new ground or stories.

Yeah, he's more of a recap site, unless Sharma puts something out. The apologist thing? Believe it or not, I'd go nuts if I didn't have this place to counter my points on. 100% of the "this is the only way" would even get old to me. I know what I think, but in no way do I know I'm right about it. And looking down on the opposing view doesn't make sense to me.

If anything(and my guess is Brett reads all this eventually) I wish there was a counterpoint addition to his site. Where someone actively(intelligently) wrote the opposite. And yes, there's quite a few people here that do a great job at it.
