I get the same feeling when I see #sparkle that I got during that weird few months where dudes were acting like they were really into those cartoon ponies.

:-s

So Lindor, I assume, is playing elite defense still except he's regressed offensively from last season, and this makes him... better?

His walk rate is similar to last year overall. He's whiffing more, but also has 2.5x the home runs as last year in 3/4 the PA's. He hasn't really progressed as a hitter, but I wouldn't say he's regressed, either.

Lower SLG and substantially fewer doubles to go with that uptick in HR. Is the Eastern League a better hitters league than Carolina League (where he spent most of his time last season)?

His slugging is .391 instead of .395. First off, that's hardly a dropoff to pick on. Secondly, it is entirely due to a drop in batting average - the ISO is up ever so slightly.

The doubles are off - partly due to some of them being triples this year. But doubles can vary significantly from year to year, so I don't think that dropoff is particularly alarming.

Fair enough.

someone tell me the backstory on the stupid sparkle stuff

#sparkle is the "face of the franchise" descriptor in the #rig #want #slack family.

Wow, that's extremely stupid.

I think it's a combination of he's a future star (#sparkle) and he's got pretty eyes (#sparkle).

(really)

Wow, that's extremely stupid.

how do you guys read these idiots

Brett's not that bad, he just aims for broad appeal and is a bit of an apologist.

I pretty much don't read Parks anymore.

Kyle is right on the money with this one. Brett has a lot of good info and pretty good analysis/insight. He just caters to the masses (which I suppose is sound business strategy). Still, his "the-cubs-are-never-wrong" and #sparkle strategies are tiresome and old.

Parks has simply worn thin.

I do with them like I do for all people - take them for what they are worth.

Why are they still putting Bryant at 3rd? I thought the concensus was that he'll wind up in a corner OF position. I get it that 3rd is harder to play and if he was destined to stay at 3rd, then he should be there. But that's not what everyone says. I'd put in LF or RF and let him learn those positions.

so they should move him from where they want him to play because "everyone" says he should play the OF?

He gets to stay at third base until he proves he can't play there. He hasn't proved he can't play there.

Just repeating what 'experts' have said. You've heard them, I'm sure. If he can handle 3rd, that's great. But if he can't...then start him in the OF now.

Do you think the people in charge of what position he plays are better qualified to determine that than those people?

Every "expert" I'm aware of has questioned his ability to stay at 3B, but I do not know of anyone that has outright said he cannot stick.

Scott Frazier gets the start for the AZL Cubs. No Jorge Soler in the lineup.

the downside if bryant fails is we're [expletive] as a franchise. the upside is brett might choke to death on his lame ass #sparkle nonsense

Is it me or has he become nearly impossible to follow on Twitter with those junior high hash tags?
