I was around Brett on a different message board dating back to when he was in law school. He was one of the most knowledgable posters on that site and he certainly caters to the masses now. As would just about anyone, when you're trying to make money. He knows more than he writes, I'll positively vouch for that.

 

Honestly, who the hell do you guys read? Is there a single person that doesn't suck ass? Everyone has little things that can get annoying-I get that. But it honestly seems like some of you hate everything.

 

Most sports media is hot garbage that just repeats the same shreds of info and rumors a billion times over. It's barely a step up from the discussions here and often times much, much worse (BCB).

 

Brett is a good writer, but the apologist thing is dead-on and most of the time he's just putting up Cliff's Notes-summaries of other people's reporting/posting. It's useful, but he's not really breaking any new ground or stories.

I feel like Brett has done an excellent job covering the rooftop drama and has given coverage and insight there I haven't found anywhere else.

 

When it comes to covering the baseball side of things, I'd agree with your POV.

Yeah, the renovation/rooftop coverage as well as his long piece on the business issues (apologist-ey as it may be) have set him apart, IMO.

It is fun to see a horrible rumor about the Cubs like "May be forced to put own games on TV" and wonder how Brett's going to spin it as a good thing the next morning.

Even the rooftop stuff just feels like he's culling multiple local business reports and condensing them into single pieces. Again, it's useful, but it is what it is.
