Aging curves apply regardless of the mileage on your arm.

I think there's a middle ground here.

Same here. Not the end all, be all. But I do think it matters.

I guess I've done a 180 here. I wanted Shark dealt over the offseason, maybe even as far back as the prior deadline. But there's just SOOOOO few guys out there.....The return had better be epic, if he's dealt.

I've come around to only really being excited about a Boston deal at this point -- if Betts is part of the package.

I haven't been following Shark rumors, has Betts been rumored? Or just somebody we want? It would be refreshing to have a top prospect who is really, really good at not striking out. So sick of worrying about K%

Certainly, Shark is more attractive than the average 30 year old candidate because of it, but you can't whitewash his age because of his lighter workload either.

And I'm pretty sure Tanaka's history makes him less attractive than the typical 25 year old.

There was a rumor of an imminent RS trade.

It is me saying that I'm saying I don't do the trade without Betts.

Oh, just wondering if Sneaky still has Alcantara pretty close to Baez.

Alcantara has been smokin hot too so I'd guess yes :)

Still hoping for Gausman and Bundy myself.

I guess I wouldn't complain about that!

But Betts is just such a unique player. 7% K-rate while generating some pop, showing patience, stealing bases and capable of playing anywhere but the battery is pretty cool.

The thought of getting Betts makes me drool Im just not sure how likely Boston is to make a deal with Theo. I wonder if they'd wind up moving him to CF.

I'd put him in CF right now.

2B:Alcantara

SS: Castro

3B: Baez

RF: Bryant

CF: Betts

That has the makings of a monster offense if things were to go right.

Include Alcantara in the trade for Stanton.

Back to back doubles for Alcantara and Baez.

Javy 3-4.

FYI, this double by Javy just missed being a HR.

I hate saying it, but I doubt we can get Stanton without one of Javy or KB.

This past offseason maybe, but with the way he's destroying everything this year I don't think that's at all possible anymore.

Bryant HR

I know it's being discussed in the gam thread, but I think Shark can be convinced to stay once he sees Javy and KB producing in the majors.

That's one hell of a risk to take. And I don't think we're willing to pay him what he'd get on the open market which is what you'd have to do to sign him next summer or later

If we were willing to give Tanaka 6/120, surely we'd give it to Shark, if he pitched like an ace all year.

More importantly, every time a front end starter nears the open market, the not willing to pay argument comes up. Unless they plan to keep getting lucky with Maholm after Feldman after Hammel until they manage to home grow some more durable pitching prospects than what we have, they're going to need to be willing to pay these guys.

Bryant walked in his 3rd PA, btw.

Also, he's been caught stealing twice.

Those are his first two caught stealing of his pro career.

Me looking at boxscores:

Iowa scored 8? YES. Baez probably did something.

Tennessee scored 1? Well, Bryant probably hit a solo HR.

And the latter is usually right.

Yeah, Marlins will hold onto him until the trade deadline in his walk year, I'd imagine. They're actually contending and he's been MVP caliber. He's not going anywhere yet. And also we definitely couldn't get him without maybe both of KB and Javy. The dreams of a Alcantara/Almora/Vogelbach/+ style package without including KB or Javy was only viable when he was oft injured and hitting near .250... and if those players were tearing up the minors this year, which they have not been

What precedent is there for moving two top-10 prospects together in a deal?

Not sure it's ever been done because of the rarity of a team having two Top 10 prospects to begin with (let alone the need to move both of them), but Stanton fits the mold as someone who would be deserving of the offer. Stanton is still only 24, putting up MVP caliber numbers (he's on like a 9+ WAR pace right now I think), still has a year of control left (and is super cheap at the moment), is the best power hitter in all of baseball, and maybe the most prolific power hitter of the last 25 years. And he's still 3 years away from reaching his prime years. If any players in baseball are worthy of a duo of Top 10 prospects in a deal, I'd label him and Trout and that's it.

Not to mention he's putting up these ridiculous power numbers in a cavernous pitchers park... not that park factors really affect his power ability.
