McDermott appears to be a classic overachiever, but maybe he's just that good. Maybe he's Larry Bird.

as a Creighton and Bulls fan, i love this move for obvious reasons as doug will probably go down as the most beloved bluejay ever.

he's more athletic than people give him credit for, as his defense was risk-adverse in college due to his significant importance on the offensive side.

i think a good comp for him, and a realistic ceiling for him, is that of antwain jamison. pretty versatile, good shooter than can space the floor, but will have his defensive liabilities.

I respect that you like creighton and the bulls and totally understand excitement here. However Antwan Jamison? Jamison was a legendary collegiate player who played on the NBA forever. He was a boarderline 20/10 guy, all star caliber 40 minute a game guy.

And the "more athletic than anybody realizes" thing is said about every unathletic white 4 year shooter ever to enter the NBA.

The nba combine athletic drills are worthless in this regard as noted by Jimmer freddette grading out on par with Derrick rose in some of those drills.

McDermott was a better college player than Jamison, and Jamison hit 20/9 just twice in his career. It's a very good comparison.

I think Jamison is probably the best comp I've heard for McDermott. McDermott's a better shooter, Jamison better inside. Both combo 3/4 guys. Another good comp for McDermott is probably Wally Sczerbiak. Career 41% from 3. Similar size. But McDermott is a MUCH better rebounder from the looks of things. Wally only got 4 boards per game in his career. Ugh.

I dont know what to say. You guys think McDermott is likely to have a career close to Jamisons? From 99-09 Jamison averaged 21 points 8 boards. McDermott may not even be an NBA starter. You are out of your mind. Jamison was in the nba as a 37 year old last year.

We should be hoping for a Mike Miller comp with McDermott. And like I said before im not sure how much Thibs will even use him. Hes going to be battling Snell for minutes. Do you think prime Jamison would be battling Tony Snell for minutes?

and as for college careers, he certainly had a great one but he played in the MVC most his career, and didnt have a ton of team success. Jamisons jersey is retired in chapel hill.

The Dan Patrick Show's staff placed their best yesterday for which player McDermott would be compared to first on ESPN. It was a pretty even split between Morrison and Sczerbiak.

Jamison is a ridiculous career comp....McDermott isn't even a little black

Love that he has that Dirk one-legged fade away.

I didn't say that McDermott was going to have a 20 year NBA career, but that Jamison is a good comparison for the type of player he'll be. That doesn't mean they'll have identical career paths. To be more specific, a couple months back I thought he'd be Jamison plus some threes and minus some boards. I think McDermott is going to score points, and if he ends up the leader of a bench unit like it seems he might be in Chicago as a rookie, he'll probably get the chance to score a whole lot of them.

But didn't you know that Jamison was a great college player and has his jersey retired at UNC? smh

And we have a RealGM insider saying Melo to the Bulls is a lock.

I'm still not getting my hopes up. I'll never forget the RealGM insider who said that the Tyrus for Amare trade was going to happen...whoops.

FWIW, said insider is the same guy who said something about the Bulls and Magic talking trade a day before Woj reported they were discussing Afflalo.

Yes, but Jamison a HOFer?

Melo himself already said he was going to sit down with other teams. Even if someone in the Bulls org. says it's a lock, it doesn't mean too much.

Doesn't mean he hasn't mostly (if not entirely) decided.

These guys are divas, they want to be courted and recruited whether they've made their minds up or not. Do you really think LeBron, Wade, and Bosh didn't know they were all teaming up well before they did the Free Agent meetings with the different teams?
