A traded player can't be aggregated with other players for two months after being traded for. S&T explanation doesn't really make sense. Sometimes you can split up trades so a guy is technically traded alone but that doesn't really add up in a Melo hypothetical either.

If that's true (I don't really know for sure) can't you just make the S&T officially go through a month later or whatever?

Late August? That seems highly unlikely.

Why? It'd be a handshake agreement.

I heard something similar talked about with one of the trade rumors lately where some team was going to give up this year's 1st and next year's but it wouldn't be put through until after the draft so it wouldn't break the trading back to back draft picks rule.

That's like a week or two though, not 8 weeks. I can't ever recall a trade taking that long to become official. Besides to have waited that long we could have just traded Mike James and Ronnie Brewer who are immediate "expirings". Don't think we'll need that much salary for Melo especially because it's looking like Dunleavy will still be around as a matching salary.

Did we have enough to take on Smith too?

Edit math error

Just the minimums should be enough;

Boozer&James&Amundson&Brewer equals 20.869. Can take back up to 125% as long as we stay under apron which we do = 26.086. Minus Smiths 5.982 = 20.1M left for Melo.

If you can figure out how to structure Randolph it adds 2.28 extra in salary you can take back. A S&T Nazr adds 1.81 extra in take back.

Bulls can trade Anthony Randolph again without waiting the two months for salary aggregation if they are under the cap.

But the whole point is to stay over the cap in a S&T so we retain our MLE and BAE

I'm so confused...I just read that the Nuggets trade isn't officially official until July 10th...

Hmm. Not sure. We should be able to take on Anthony at anytime with the Deng TPE. And Silver announced it which you would think he wouldn't if it wasn't legal yet.

How much salary do these expirings add up to without Boozer? In the event that NY refuses to take Boozer back in a S&T, would there be some way to sign and trade all these expirings, plus MDJ and Snell for Melo? Without having to get rid of Jimmy or Taj? Does it help if we amnesty Boozer first (to fall under the cap) and can then include Randolph in the sign and trade?

If we're under the cap we can just sign Melo though now with Randolph on board our offer is about 13 (which includes dumping MDJ). So if we sent back Ramdolph we can increase the Melo salary, but then why have Randolph at all?

(The three vet mins are moot as they're waived if we're staying under the cap).

Okay apparently Gar is on the radio and a poster on RealGM is making it sound like Denver just wanted him off the roster so I guess we just liked McDermott enough to take on the salary.

Sounds like awful negotiating by GarPax

Cody Westerlund ‏@CodyWesterlund 38m

Forman just said Randolph can be traded individually in next 60 days but not as part of "multi-player" deal

@McGrawDHBulls @KCJHoop Go remind Gar that they can if they're under the cap.

I like this move. Maybe having a decent backup SF will help woo Melo or LeBron because someone else can play that position and score and give the starting SF some rest.

So he can create his own shot, spot up a three, and play decent defense? Can he play SG too?

True. On second thought, it appears Randolph is here for insurance incase we have to deal Taj if the Knicks won't work out a sign and trade. No other reason to trade for a PF. That, or they know for sure that Mirotic won't be coming over this summer.

It's going to be a very interesting couple of weeks. I hope Melo stays true to his word that he doesn't want to drag this out.

I wanted Stauskas for selfish and basketball reasons but I'm cool with this move. RealGM is widely panning the move even before the Randolph thing was announced and I think that's stupid. Not every white guy who scored a lot at a high mid-major (save the BE last year) is the next Adam Morrison and I think we should give a little respect for the one thing GarPax does consistently well which is draft solid role players outside the top 10.

My only problem is that McDermott has this douchebag looking face that annoys me, but if I can learn to love someone who I thought was really a douchebag out of college (Noah) I can get over the douchey face.
