"He's got an advantage over every player in this Draft other than Marcus Smart, and that advantage is that the NBA has already seen him play against NBA players last year in Vegas and he looked just fine," a Central Division executive said. "He came off screens, he shot the ball. He's already answered the question of whether he could do it -- he's done it. I think that's a huge advantage for him. Those that question whether he can guard his position or not, all you have to do is pop in the DVDs from the games in Vegas. He's showing you he can guard Harrison Barnes; he's showing you he can guard NBA players. I don't know what other kind of proof you need other than that."

McDermott will have to show he can be credible defensively, and he will be helped if he goes to a team with a good low-post option. Imagine, for example, McDermott playing off of DeMarcus Cousins in Sacramento, or Andre Drummond in Detroit.

"The fact is, the kid's had a bulls' eye on his back for at least two seasons. He's had defenses put on him and much better athletes put on him," one executive said. "He's pretty talented, and he's obviously got some grit to him. He doesn't strike fear into people, but he lets his game do the talking. If he can just become an average team defender, he'll be fine. And with the trend in the league going smaller, I see him playing some four, because of the postup game. He's got some of that herky-jerky stuff down there."

I respect that you like creighton and the bulls and totally understand excitement here. However Antwan Jamison? Jamison was a legendary collegiate player who played on the NBA forever. He was a boarderline 20/10 guy, all star caliber 40 minute a game guy.

And the "more athletic than anybody realizes" thing is said about every unathletic white 4 year shooter ever to enter the NBA.

The nba combine athletic drills are worthless in this regard as noted by Jimmer freddette grading out on par with Derrick rose in some of those drills.

Yes, but Jamison a HOFer?

At least with Ben Wallace that argument will be settled somewhat soon when he gets into the hall. McDermott will have to be in the league 5 or 6 years before even the biggest idiots recognize that a Jamison comparison is ridiculous.

If McDermott comps to Jamison what does that make Embiid? Hakeem?

I don't hate Doug McDermott and I don't think he's gonna suck. I'm just pissed that they could have finally gotten a scoring guard with some upside in Harris and more importantly im pissed they didn't take the afflalo gift. Basically best case scenario for the development of McDermott is probably not as good as afflalo already is.

You can compare the way two players play without it making the two players equal. McDermott has moves that remind me of Dirk Nowitzki, that doesn't mean that I think he will be anywhere near as good as Nowitzki. But he has that same 1-footed fallaway that is tough to defend. He obviously has great range. Even how he likes getting the ball at either elbow of the free throw line and facing up his defender.

Take a look at around 1:25 - 2:05 of this video. The fadeaway, the drive at 1:40, the trailing the play 3-pointers. Again, he isn't going to be nowitzki--he does those things at 7 feet tall, but you can see similarities.

I said this in the Draft thread, but I just don't get it with Harris. Seems small, slow and I don't think he will be able to do much besides come off a screen for his shots. I know you mentioned that the bulls offense typically ends with the clock running down and needing a shot that no one can create--and that Harris would be better for that, but I disagree. I don't see Harris being able to create his own shot, but I think McDermott has had to do that all of his years at Creighton. He is crafty and has moves like the fadeaway to create space for himself. He also can give the quick pump-fake which defenders have to respect to move by them and get a more open shot.

That said, I don't expect him to be some offensive savior. I expect him to be an offensive weapon off of the bench. A better overall Kyle Korver, which I think he can be. Plus Harris is pretty young, whereas McDermott is better able to come in right away and contribute which fits the bulls window better.

Now afflalo would have been great--especially at how cheaply he came. However, if we would have traded for afflalo, would his salary affected our ability to get Melo? We obviously would have less space to sign him outright. Maybe it reduces our leverage for a sign and trade. Maybe Reinsdorf doesn't want to go much over the cap even if we were able to do a sign and trade. I don't blame the front office if getting afflalo makes it more difficult to get Anthony.

Melo himself already said he was going to sit down with other teams. Even if someone in the Bulls org. says it's a lock, it doesn't mean too much.

These guys are divas, they want to be courted and recruited whether they've made their minds up or not. Do you really think LeBron, Wade, and Bosh didn't know they were all teaming up well before they did the Free Agent meetings with the different teams?

Yes, and it stands to reason he wouldn't be completely honest and open about his intentions during the courting process.

Even if he did actually say it, these other teams can always change his mind.

It's like after a first date saying " I'm going to a party with tons of hot available girls who are going to be trying to tempt me, but I swear baby, you're the only one for me. How often is that the truth?

hah, Rose now saying that he's not sure if he's even going to try out for Team USA as he's not sure if he's ready to be "competitive" yet, despite all the reports that he's been doing 5-on-5 for multiple months and the surgery that was said to have 4-6 month recovery period taking place 8 months ago.

But Rose also said he is uncertain if he will participate in USA Basketball's training camp starting July 28 in Las Vegas.

"I still don't know yet," Rose told Yahoo Sports at the Drew Gooden Foundation Basketball Camp on Sunday. "If I'm feeling right and the time is

, for sure I will go out there. My body is responding good, but you never know.

"Right now, I haven't really thought about that. I am just worrying about just trying to get back every day and I'm really taking rehab one day at a time instead of trying to think about competing."

Rose has been playing five-on-five for about 45 days and Bulls coach Tom Thibodeau recently said Rose was increasing the intensity of his workouts. Rose is certain he will be in uniform for the Bulls' opener.

"For sure. That's not a concern," Rose said. "I'm on a mission. I'm just trying to get better. I'm taking it day by day. I'm getting the best out of every day."

What a [expletive] idiot. I'm sure the FO loves Rose making those comments the day before FA starts. That'll give Melo all the confidence in the world. Seriously, what a [expletive] moron.

He was asked the question.

He said he'd love to play with him and likes his game and that he won't be recruiting.

The recruiting uproar is so [expletive] stupid.

The recruiting thing is the stupidest thing. All the talk about that big Noah -> Melo recruiting pitch at the ASG is hilarious. These are adult professional sportwriters reporting this stuff its a joke.

Yeah, but there's a middle ground between "ZOMG, HE'S OUT THERE TRYING TO BEST BUDS WITH EVERYONE!" and Rose flat out saying that he doesn't think they need whatever big FA's are out there. Yeah, I get what he's doing in clumsily propping up his team, but somebody teach him a [expletive] diplomatic answer for once.
