Who gives a [expletive] if it's a private conversation? The anti-logic behind that is so stupid; just because it's private doesn't mean it's a horrible thing to say/think. If it gets out, hey, you're [expletive].

You know who didn't give a [expletive] if it was a private conversation?

Hitler.

He was remarkably chill in the one secretly recorded conversation that exists of him.

You do realize that he was almost certainly aware he was being recorded, right?

The site is also reporting that sources who have heard the entire hourlong recording say Sterling absolutely knew he was being recorded. TMZ Sports has reported Stiviano has said she has more than 100 hours of recorded conversations with the 80-year-old Sterling, who is said to have used the tapes to refresh his memory because he frequently forgot what he said.

Well that definitely covers her ass from a legal standpoint

speak as if everything you say is secretly being recorded

I honestly don't think this 80 year old man cares that people think he a racist. He so rich that he's insulated from others opinion. He's going to make a fortune for himself when they sell the team to lay on top of the rest of the fortune he has. He does not have to live in a reality based world very often. Look at that hot chick who taped his conversation. What the [expletive] does he care. To me the craziest thing is that he is Jewish and probably has had family members killed by the nazis.

Mark Wohlers must be thinking that Sterling was arrested.

Yes, now I'll tie back to my original reason for bringing up Chick-Fil-A and Duck Dynasty. And it's not rocket science. You have a right to think and say whatever you want, but you aren't immune from any consequences. If there is public backlash and loss of income or advertisers, etc., well, you should have thought about that.

The "private conversation" thing just strikes me as a red herring used by people looking to defend the guy as everyone's old racist grandpa or whatever.

[expletive], just speak like you're a decent human being.

What if you are not a decent human being? Who is going to protect them from themselves. WHO?

I was joking in a conspiracy theory sort of way.

I'm not trying to defend him or disagree with his punishment. Basically the nba is an antitrust exempt business and his right to own a franchise may be taken away by 75pct of the other owners (which actually surprises me). No disagreement from me on those items.

However, I see a more far reaching issue. A lot of what we feel comfortable saying privately now is either not appropriate by today's standards or will become not acceptable in the future.

For example it's ok to publicly say gays are an abomination living in open rebellion with god today. In 15 years you will lose your nba team for saying it privately while secretly recorded. The lines are blurring between private and public actions. In sterling a case I don't care he's publicly done multiple things that justified this result a long time ago.

Or one could simply, y'know, NOT seriously say that.

Plus this old bag isn't being punished for things he said 15 or 20 or 30 years ago.

First, it's not ok to say that. Second, who the [expletive] is that person to say what God thinks is an abomination. Third, I would hope that someone would lose their NBA franchise for saying it today or tomorrow.

These people are different from you. If you own a business or are in the public as a leader you are held to a higher standard than Joe the Plumber.

Man, I don't have many crazies on my FB feed for times like this and the one super crazy right winger seems to have just shut up the last three weeks (I'd never unfriend him because his bit was so out there, it had fantastic comedic value).

Yeah this is the sort of thing that sends me on a wild unfriending binge. Which is good for the soul once in awhile.

Chris Broussard. He's leading the reporting on the Sterling story currently for ESPN. The same outlet that he originally made those statements six months ago.

First, stop saying his franchise is being taken away. It's not. It is idiotic to say it is. If he is forced to sell he will sell for full market value from the highest bidder. Just stop with this nonsense.

Second, you can preface it all you like, but you are trying to defend what he said.

Whitlock gon' Whitlock.

You see, Sterling is a VICTIM of white supremacy.

WTF is that [expletive]? I despise Whitlock so much. What a clown.

I'm not remotely exaggerating: He is the biggest [expletive] buffoon to have ever been given a national platform to voice his opinions (outside of those who don't realize they're not in on the joke like the Duck Dynasty people and other reality-show trash). He's a joke.

My cubicle neighbor was complaining today about how if the roles were reversed (race-wise obviously) oh it would be a different story and how Sterling was baited into those remarks.

So yeah, at least with Facebook I can block things I don't want to see or hear. Not so much at work. :stickman:
