Playing spoiler would be nice, but I have a feeling the Cardinals are running away with the division
Really? I know the Reds lost a couple of key players, but that staff is still elite, and the Pirates got better. Don't forget your Central Div. leading Brewers!

It looks to me that the Cubs are actually a solid ball club, and if in ANY other division would be a serious contender.

How did the Pirates get better?

And the Reds staff is elite?

FWI, this dude has been posting ironically for a couple of years. He always seems to show up around the time we play the Cardinals.

He's been around (sporadically) since the season started.

He's hilarious...whether it's intentional or not, I'm not entirely sure, as we've seen our share of weird ass people post here before.

Can you find Javy Baez jersey t shirts anywhere yet? I checked a couple websites and didn't see any.

I'd hold off. I believe he's changed numbers at every stop in the minors, who knows what its going to be in Chicago.

That's the only reason I haven't ordered a custom one.

Although you guys may not want me to. Here is my list of past shirtseys:

Wood (1998)

Patterson

Nomar

Harden

Wood (newer style)

Rizzo....

Good point, I saw jerseys with number 70 on them but it kind of seems unlikely he would keep 70 in the majors.

He already has switched numbers in AAA, so yeah.

Surprised we don't have lineups yet. Seems like we've had them pretty early lately, even for night games.

not a real big fan of letting Lake face a high-whiff pitcher, and sitting him with a pitch-to-contact guy going

FWIW, Cole hasn't been as high whiff as you might think...at least, not since 2012.

Obviously has that kind of stuff, though.

I'm really tired of Kalish starting over Lake. It's not like Kelly is some dominate RHP.

There's a pretty decent chance that Kalish is a better short and long term option in the OF than Lake. Over the season that distinction will become more clear, and the playing time should adjust accordingly, whether it means Lake or Kalish getting more time, or maybe both if another OF struggles. There's nothing hurt by a platoon that also gives Lake some PA v. RHP in the meantime though, and despite being on the thinner half of the platoon, Lake still has 9 more PA than Kalish already.

what are you even basing this on? his sub-.300 wOBA projections?

they're both likely to be below-average players, but Lake's upside is tangibly much higher than Kalish's "decent 4th OF/bad LF starter"

The entirety of their careers, really. Part of it is that the likely outcome isn't great for either, but as much as we dream on Lake's tools all gelling, there's also a chance that a healthy Kalish actually gets to make good on his prospect status and be a decent LF. In general Lake's odds are better across the board, but it's not such a slam dunk that there needs to be nightly teeth gnashing when Kalish gets starts against RHP in the first two weeks of the season.

Correct, but he was highly enough regarded to believe that he has the ability to be a decent player, and he was more highly regarded than Lake has ever been.

I'm really tired of Lake being on an MLB roster and variance's continued propping-up of him.

Well, not really, I hope variance props him up forever.

Kalish was sporting a .366 OBP in 424 games through the minors, that is quite nice, especially from a LH. Maybe I just need to see more of him, I don't know. He has looked over matched early on this year.
