My one concern with Edwards is that he has never gone deep into games consistently, getting pulled after 4 IP and 63 pitches isn't helping that. Hopefully it's a cold weather/first start precaution and we start seeing him go 6 IP with regularity soon.

I have a hard time imagining it's not that.

Bruno now has 3 HBP in 2 games.

Checked his BR page, this happened at Boise too. Now with 27 HBP in 378 career PA. That's kind of amazing, he has a 7% HBP rate.

Who the hell is this Daniel Corcino guy striking out all of the Smokies?

A really short guy that throws mid to upper 90's and will likely be a back end of the pen type for the Reds soon. He's made some top 100 lists prior to this past offseason.

Haha holy [expletive]

That's pretty interesting. I like it. I'm guessing if he gets hit that often, he crowds the plate and cover the outside half. Lot of guys willing to crowd aren't scared of inside fastball, so that might also reflect well on his ability to handle heat.

Has anyone proven that CJ can't consistently go 6? Seems like he's being handle with kid gloves because he has a teenage physique. He averaged 5.2 before coming to the Cubs last year. He did go 7 a couple times. I sometimes wonder if the Cubs are being too easy on him. But I can't blame them if they are. And I won't get concerned until he actually proves he can't throw 6.

is it normal that edwards would hit for himself with 2 outs right before he got pulled? just making sure he's not hurt or anything.

if there was nobody on base and only the 5th inning, it makes more sense to just let the pitcher hit rather than burning a position player in a tie game when the odds of scoring a run in that inning are low.

The concern is more "he'll be less effective when he starts consistently going 6" than "he'll break if he starts consistently going 6". For as great as he was last year, he only went 6 in 3 of 24 outings.

It's not a big deal, I'm still the biggest CJ fan around, I was just a little bummed to see him held up to start the year

As long as we see a slow and steady increase in his pitches per outing I am still very hopeful with Edwards. He's a 2016 guy so he has time to really work his way up to starter level stamina. Take your time and take it easy with Edwards.

Unless MiLB backtracks again, Rivero did pitch for Tennessee: 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 4/0 K/BB

A good arm who scuffled in AAA last year. A bit undersized, and has some effort in his delivery. IIRC, it's like a 92-94 mph fastball with some action, and a slider that flashes. May be more of a pen arm. Didn't realize he was sent to AA - he should do fine there with his stuff.

Good to see Jensen pitching. Was too busy to really follow this spring, so not real sure how his stuff looked, but if it's close to pre-injury, he could move fast as a pen arm.

Yeah, nice to see Jensen pitch well, although I admit I'm disappointed he's in relief and old roster-filllers like Rhee (Tenn) and Rosario are starting instead.

Rosscup and Mateo each with good 2K innings, and Rivero with 4K in 2 innings.
