Unless he's magically learned from his awful mistakes in Chicago, Tampa is going to regret giving him final say on personnel. That's what ruined the 2007 draft, when drafting for the system took precedence over drafting talent.

Exactly what I thought when I saw that. Can't believe Tampa saw Lovie's tenure in Chicago and thought this would be a good idea.

Have no idea why they would do that.

I saw that Wisenhunt/Grimm could be headed to Detroit.

I would like that. National guys saying Titans are interested in Whisenhunt and I hate that idea. Getting him off the market would make me feel better.

Same reason Ken Whisenhunt is a hot commodity in the coaching searches. Organizations don't learn from mistakes.

So, at what point does Marvin Lewis end up on the chopping block? He's had some really talented teams, but he's 0-5 in the playoffs in his career. There has to come a point where the Bengals decide to move on from him, but I'm not quite sure where that point is.

I think they may be afraid of the alternative considering how terrible they've been over the years. Plus, when you consider the level of competence of their owners, as a fan, I wouldn't be confident they'd make even close to a decent hire. Kind of like when Illinois fired Zook expecting to get something better going.

Local opinion is that Lewis has an extra long leash because he's willing to work for the owner, who is reportedly a nightmare. If they fire Lewis, the feeling is that no one would be willing to take the job

Its still an NFL job. The Raiders, Browns, Redskins and Cowboys have never gone coachless, Cincy wouldn't either.

No, but they might end up with someone worse than Lewis

I'm sorta ambivalent about Marvin Lewis, but Jay Gruden was a pretty terrible play caller today. Dalton was bad but the OC didn't do him any favors.

I guess I can agree on Roethlisberger, although I don't know what he actually learned from his coaches other than staying alive until coverage breaks down.

Warner, Rivers -- Whisenhunt just took over already developed QBs. He didn't really do much.

I think he's a better idea than most of Detroit's coaching hires, though. He did put together 2 playoff seasons using a veteran QB in Arizona. He'd be expected to do essentially the same thing in Detroit, with what seems like a similar formula.

Warner improved again after Whisenhunt came in. Arizona was doomed the final three seasons because Derek Anderson, Max Hall, John Skelton and Kevin Kolb were quarterbacking, plus the offensive line was in shambles. Maybe Whisenhunt had a hand in not developing the offensive line better, but I think he's a solid coach.

He also had a big part in drafting/trading for most of those QBs.

I guess I just don't see the appeal in Whisenhunt as a head coach. He was below .500 at Arizona and I have trouble divorcing him from the QB troubles there since he would/should have had a big say in who to bring in. Bruce Arians coming in and winning 10 games this year doesn't exactly help his cause, either (that's the most Whiz ever won in Arizona).

There are so many more intriguing coaches out there who haven't failed yet that I wouldn't be happy with going for Whiz, despite the Super Bowl appearance.

I think he has potential to learn from any mistakes he might have made the first time around. He did do a decent job when he first arrived in Zona. Kind of fell apart from there, but there's some kind of success that you can point to.

The Vikings have asked for permission to interview about 18 coordinators by now it feels like. There's really no one that excites me that much more than the others at this point.

Edit: Now I see they're going to interview Mike Zimmer. I think I'd really like him as a head coach, but obviously his OC/QB guy would be huge like any of the other defensive guys.

Mike Tice to be Falcons OL coach.

Good luck with that.

That's what he should always have been, and nothing more.

But....he was awful at managing our offensive line. Remember, it was Tice that was the Jamarcus Webb advocate.
