He took a very large discount to stick around too. If he were to hit the open market, it's possible he could have doubled his guaranteed money.

I was thinking that looked like a good deal.

I love that guy. Seriously, he's a bad ass.

Don't know if it was on purpose or not, but nice timing posting this right as our one blue player was being extended.

Forte has to be one of the most underrated players in the league if he is considered only a "good starter". They only have the charts out for 6 teams, but on the Bills they consider Spiller "high quality" and Fred Jackson a "good starter". In what world are Fred Jackson and Matt Forte on the same tier??

When I read the headline, I originally thought Brandon Marshall signed a contract to appear as a daily co-host on The View.

As they pointed out in the article, the tipping point from high quality to good starter for Forte was his league worse pass protection rating.

i'm not too concerned with lyerla going to the packers...he's bound to get in trouble and find himself out of the league, one doesn't just quit snorting cocaine.

I'm not sure if this is sarcasm but... Kyle Long?

Lyerla in GB will be like Ramsay Snow in Winterfell.

It would be just like the Packers to see him suddenly become a choir boy and then hit the pro bowl every year.

Kid's got talent. There's no risk for them if he can't stay clean -- they just toss him back on the street. It's a good move, IMO.

....just seems like an awful lot of average players for a team that ranked #6 in offensive DVOA last year. To me, Forte should be in the next category up, and I might try to make the case for Martellus, too.

And your HC is an offensive guru.

This illustrates why I was more than willing to see them draft offense early. The line could use the pipeline and there is plenty of room for skill position talent.

Playing in GB, i'd be more worried about meth if I were him

Yeah, the same way Lovie was never able to put together a good offense is probably going to be the same way Trestman is with defense. The Broncos were a pretty bad defense and got to the Superbowl. It has been done several times before with teams winning a championship. At some point in the Trestman tenure, its probably going to be more beneficial to just keep building a more elite offense and focusing on creating turnovers on defense and outscoring teams.

Agreed. For a one-year shot at the SB, I see how drafting defense might have been a good idea. You get the maximum bang for your buck by replacing the worst players. But in order to help keep the window open for a few years, I wouldn't have minded them doubling down on offense.

The defense was too bad not to address it.
