Week 14: Cowboys (7-5) @ Bears (6-6) Mon Night ESPN

When asked about Alshon's progress Marshall said he gets open because I'm doubled, came to my off-season camp where I helped him, and I hope to get some one-on-one's now so I can make more plays. He turned the question back to himself. I don't hate Marshall - he's fantastic. But he's a diva. When the Bears were 3-0, what did Marshall do? Complained he wasn't getting enough balls. He isn't happy unless the Bears win and he has the spotlight.

What Marshall actually said:

"To see this guy develop, you know, is special off the field, but on the field, of course, it's helping me. Now, teams can't double me. You know, they have to play fair. And pretty soon they're gonna be doubling this guy, rolling coverage to him, and I'm gonna be getting the 2nd and 3rd cornerback."

I never denied that. But that obviously wasn't the part I was referring to.

No matter how many times you say it, it's not going to become true.

The only other part you could've been referring to (because it was the only other time he was talking about Alshon) was the couple of sentences right before that where he talked about working with him at his camp.

The only part where he gives himself props really was when he was talking about his FitSpeed Athletic Performance, but he then explained about the physical and mental part for Jeffery while being there with him and Bennett and how that translate to the year he's having. Marshall was giving Jeffery props. He did however showed a lot of support to Cutler and what did you expect him to do/say? Cutler is the starting QB for the Bears. They're close and played together for several years. It doesn't hurt that Cutler throws it to him 20 times a game either. It wouldn't surprise me if Cutler is the smartest guy in the room, but I also think he can't exactly translate that on the field like Peyton/Brees/Brady/etc can. You know how people talk about some are "book smart, but not street smart" or vice versa. I feel like Cutler is book smart, but not football smart on the field.

The only other words he said specifically about Alshon...and this was in response to being asked directly by Dilfer about his work with Alshon in February and March:

"Well, you know what, it's...what I've learned, especially, like you said, the journey. You know, it's more than just the game. And, you know, I've developed a facility called Fit Speed where we take a holistic approach...where we're not just developing the physical or developing the mental. So, I bring these guys down...and Alshon, especially, because not only do I know he'll benefit from the physical part, like we're seeing this year...but the mental part that I didn't get early on in my career..."

Then he says that other stuff I posted before.

Show me a NFL star that isn't. Some don't show it or come across as much as others, but they're all divas in some way.

Actually, that should happen starting next week.

No. Alshon is a main cog in my #1 seed machine.

Yeah I don't see anything wrong with what Marshall said. He got his 100 yards and a win, I don't imagine he has much to be bitter about this week. I think the no career playoff appearances thing wears on him more than anything.

Awesome win tonight. Season is relevant again at least for another week. I don't really have any faith in the Lions losing another game this year though, even though it's the Lions. I have to imagine next week is probably our best chance to overtake them.

Wait, the [expletive] is going on with Wilson in this thread? Is this something other people actually think? I have no idea how you took any of that away from what he said. Guy had a good game, a sick block, he was the first one right there pumping up and congratulating Bush and Alshon after their touchdowns, and you think he's a selfish "diva?"

I do not understand sports fans sometimes.

“We got a touchdown. We didn’t know it was going to be so sweet,” Marshall said. “I just embraced him. Held him, [and told him] ‘You’re awesome.’ Me and Earl [bennett] were on the sideline. Earl brought it up and [Jeffery] had the best deep-ball skill of anybody in the game; maybe even ever. He’s just a freak.”

“We all knew what [Jeffery] was capable of doing,” Marshall said. “He’s not just helping me out. He’s helping the special teams, defense, the whole organization. He’s just special.”

What a self-centered prick.

Wilson's been huffing paint again. wtf is he even talking about?

Outstanding game from Alshon and the entire offense. At this point is it unreasonable to be expecting some sort of progress from our rookie LBs?

Insomnia overnight led me to ponder some stuff, including who the starting QB should be going forward.

If the Bears get in they are very likely to see the 49'ers or Panthers in the first round. Those are probably the best defenses in football. You're going to need a QB with mobility who has arm strength enough to fit throws into tight spaces.

So, to me the QB issue hinges on who you trust against a very good defense. I totally get why people love Josh. He's been great. That said, he really hasn't been tested by a very good defense (I don't think there are any "great" defenses this year). Some of the throws he made last night were really good, but many were pretty simple.

Jay has superior arm strength and touch (except maybe on screens / blitz check downs). He generally doesn't have to hold the ball quite as long as a result. On that basis I'd go with Jay as soon as he is 100% healthy.

Bears are now 2nd in the NFL in points scored (28.3 PPG) and 7th in total yards. But according to a Dallas writer:

But this one was really tough to stomach because the Bears are not a great offense — certainly not with starting quarterback Jay Cutler out and Josh McCown in his place. But the Dallas defense made McCown look like the reincarnation of Bears Hall of Famer Sid Luckman.

So before reading this thread, if someone had asked me to predict which posters would be all weak in the knees over McCown, I could have predicted it with a pretty decent amount of accuracy.

I want to make sweet, sweet love to the team's performance last night. The loudmouthed Cowboys fans at work are trying to avoid the several Bears fans in the office. :yahoo:

I think it's amazing that the offense is good enough to make a guy like McCown look good.

Yeah, that's basically my take on it; looking at they've been able to do with McCown should be an endorsement of wanting to see it do even better with Cutler, not just stick with the backup.

It is hard to see the offense playing any better than it did last night, regardless of who the quarterback is. I still think Cutler should be the starting quarterback, but I feel much better about moving on without him if they are unable to sign him.

Well, last night is the screwy exception of playing a defense that's even worse than the Bears'; I'm talking more about the games leading up to it, unless people are thinking that last night was some kind of "beakthrough" for McCown.
