I think $300 mil over 10 years is more insane. I think this is more of a win for the Dodgers because it's still around the same amount per year, but it's less years. If Kershaw's arm falls off tomorrow, $300 mil guaranteed is still $85 million more in guaranteed money and that's pretty insane.

You don't know what was guaranteed.

We also don't know if the $300 mil thing wasn't just completely made up [expletive]. So we are just debating the "idea" of $300 million over 10 versus $215 over 7. If I'm an organization and I need to lock up my super Ace. I will chose the 7 years with 6th year opt out over 10 years every day, and Sunday too.

Cubs avoid arbitration with Schierholtz. He gets $5m.

That's $1.2m over projected.

What about Valbuena?

James Russell gets $1.775m. Barney will go to arb.

Doesn't mean they'll go to arb, just means we exchange figures. Still have time to get deals done. We exchanged figures with everyone other than Nate, Valbuena, and Russell, by the way.

Oops, yeah. That.

Where are you getting the 2014 estimates by team? I was looking last week for that and couldn't find anything that didn't require me to add everything up myself.

Cubs 2014 payroll estimate drops to 26th in the majors.

if it stays that way and they get off to a bad start it could get very ugly at Wrigley, and quick.

B-Ref has them on the front page.

Well that's convenient and not at all a place I thought to look, even though it's way obvious in hindsight. Thanks!

A familiar face is also having a bad week.

The Japanese Softbank Hawks released Bryan LaHair.

The 31-year-old former big-leaguer is now a free agent and could elect to return stateside. LaHair was an MLB All-Star only two years ago, slashing .259/.334/.450 in 2012 while manning first base for the Cubs. Of course, he rode a blazing hot first half onto the roster and fell apart after the All-Star break, causing the Cubs to give up on him last winter. He'll have to settle for a minor league pact.

@CSNMooney Cubs agree to $3.9 million deal with Travis Wood, avoiding arbitration.
