Week 9 - MNF: Bears (4-3) @ Green Bay (5-2) - 7:40 PM, ESPN

Posted
Cutler caught passes during positional drills Monday as a stationary target for quarterback Josh McCown. Cutler fully extended and slightly jumped off both feet to catch one high throw. He walked much more healthily than when the public last saw him require assistance walking to the locker room after tearing a left groin muscle against the Redskins on Oct. 20. He did not speak to reporters immediately after practice.

Neither Cutler nor injured linebacker Lance Briggs -- who has been ruled out for at least five weeks -- nor injured cornerback Charles Tillman wore a helmet during the portion of practice open to reporters, an indication they would not participate.

Doubt we would win this game even with Cutler. Like someone else said, just find a way to go 2-2 over these next 4, which basically means winning one of the Detroit/Baltimore games. Should be fine against St. Louis with no Bradford. That puts us at 6-5, hopefully with Cutler and Briggs back, and at least an outside chance of grabbing a WC.

I don't know what it is about this team the last 3 years with starting off hot and then fading, but it's a real [expletive] drag.

The thing is though.....lose to Green Bay and Detroit and the playoff hopes are pretty much dead. At least 2 games back in the division behind both and 0-3 against the and all tiebreakers lost. Probably not catching SF either.

Meriweather-Marshall thing is still happening.

What a douche

If Marshall didnt want that [expletive] he probably shouldnt have beaten all those women, though.

That's a BS argument. Marshall is doing everything he can do to improve as a person. The opposite is true for Meriweather. And this is coming from a Packers fan.

Hmmm.....yeah, I still think he opened himself up to valid criticism when he started hitting girls.

Yup.

Merriweather is a dirty douche but he pretty much owned Marshall there.

He hardly "owned" him.

People commit crimes. They get punished and then rehabilitated and rejoin society and try to better themselves. Is that not how it works? Is Meriweather a better person than Marshall right now?

No, he owned him.

Basically, Marshall opens himself to that any time he publicly criticizes anyone else for the rest of his life.

And the people who commit scummy enough crimes (or acts) will always be at least somewhat scummy.

He opened himself up for criticism but was not "owned". That's such a silly word to use there. Merriweather is scum. He's a repeat offending piece of trash who has shown no signs of even admitting what he does it wrong. Marshall is a mentally ill individual with a checkered past who appears to have worked really hard to right the wrongs of his life.

There was no "owning", just some completely irrelevant deflecting when a scumbag got in trouble again.

He deflected the attention that his consistent barrage of head hunting illegal hits has gotten him by changing the conversation. And then whatever "ownage" he got over Marshall was lost when he basically admitted he was going to try to take out players knees instead of going after their heads.

It was actually a decent segue into his "low blow" talk.

I'm pretty sure the point he's making is that the rules are going to result in more lower body injuries because defensive players are being left with no other option. It's not, "Well screw them, if I can't hurt dudes in the head I'm going to bust up their knees now." It's a flimsy one for him to use since he was just cheap shotting guys anyway, but it's a valid point and one that has been made by others before him.

Defenders are left with no choice but to hit guys in the knees because they can't headhunt? That doesn't make any sense.

Um, yeah, that's not what I said at all, but OK.

I'm sure that's what he was attempting to say too but the quotes look a lot more sinister:

I guess I just have to take people's knees out. That's the only way. I would hate to end a guy's career over a rule, but I guess it's better other people than me getting suspended for longer. You just have to go low now, man. You've got to end people's careers. You got to tear people's ACLs and mess up people's knees. You can't hit them high anymore.

There's a lot of sarcasm/tongue in cheek there that's pretty obvious.

I'm pretty sure he wasn't actually saying he's setting out to end people's careers. He's not quite that dumb.

See I'd think that with most players, but Meriweather has been a notorious headhunter for the better part of a decade now. Dude obviously has a screw loose.

The answer is, how about you don't concuss anyone OR take their knees out? Obviously sometimes it happens, and it sucks but its part of the game. But for a player who has been going constantly selling out on his tackles in order to add another big hit to his collection to make a sarcastic 'I can't concuss them, I guess I have to blow out their knees now' comment is pathetic.

I like how guys get fined for hitting in the head, and then they complain about the rules. The rule that you can't hit people in the helmet has been in the league for a long damn time. I don't think you could ever do that. Jack Tatum didn't do that. He clotheslined fools. Ronnie Lott didn't do that. He hit your right in the numbers if you came across the middle. The only thing that has changed is the defenseless receiver and you can't "launch" yourself.

Oh and Merriweather has gotten owned on the field for about 6 years. He's a terrible/pathetic player who has always and will always break the rules.
