Basically for me it comes down to since the schedule just gets tougher many of us are wary that a developing offensive system will be able to overcome what the defense is going to be facing.

It's not too bad after @GB, v. Baltimore, v. Dallas. The Bears have 5 of the last 10 vs. offenses in the top 1/2 of the league. They've had 4 already, though, and GB will be missing their leading WR in the first game.

They play 6 games against bottom 10 defenses, including 5 games against the worst 7 defensive teams so far.

The Bears play at all the mediocre-to-bad teams (Philly, Cleveland, Minnesota, Washington, St. Louis) and get the decent teams (Baltimore, Detroit, Dallas) at home with a home/home vs. GB.

Yeah, there is nothing on the schedule this year that comes close to the horrible HOU, SF, MIN, SEA, MIN, GB stretch in 2012.

GB x 2 is all I'm afraid of. Lions at home usually goes well for us. Dallas and Baltimore are closer to mediocre than decent.

Yeah I actually think the schedule is quite favorable all year actually. Coming into the year I thought playing the AFC North and NFC East would make the schedule really difficult, but all of the east teams are beatable, and Cincinnati is really the only legit tough team in the north, and we already beat them. The only games left on the schedule I don't favor us in are the GB games, although GB is injury ravaged and overall looks to be not as good as recent years.

Trust me I've tried to go through the schedule as pessimistically as possible and I keep coming up with 9-7 or 10-6. Of course we could finish worse than that but on paper its hard to chalk up more than 4 additional losses from their remaining schedule.

Overheard in the hallway on my way into work...

Guy 1: "Well now we've lost two defensive linemen for the year...."

Guy 2: "And a starting middle linebacker...."

Guy 1: "Yeah, we lost the linebacker.....and I think that Josh Freeman would've been a better QB than Jay Cutler."

Me: *walking away faster*

Wow, that's quite the optimistic view to take.

Philly is 3-3. They are in a similar situation as the Bears with regards to dealing with a new offensive system, but coming from the standpoint of already being capable of playing offense. They could easily be favored against the Bears at home in late December, quite possibly with the division on the line. Washington is favored against the Bears this weekend.

I see a path to 5 more losses if they don't beat Washington this week. They could lose both GB games, Washington, Philly and Dallas. If they aren't good enough to beat Washington, they may not be good enough to beat Dallas either.

I expect 10-6 or better, but could see 9-7.

Just taking a short-term view of it, I can see the Bears ending the first half of the season 4-4. For a team that flew out of the gate at 3-0, that's got to be a downer.

Beating the Redskins will do a lot towards making the first half of the season successful.

lol, fun to see the common perception of the Bears. Redskins fans are fearful of the defense, but not fearful at all of Cutler or the Bears.

They probably see the Bears still getting lots of turnovers and assume the defense is solid. On offense they are probably just basing it of last year's team adding on a slight improvement because they half heard something on NFL Primetime about Marc Trestman.

And they're probably pretty confident in their defense, considering they just shut down Dallas.

Lots of Redskins fans with disagreement between heart and head.

This is how they manage to be fans of a team called Redskins unironically.

Again, this I'd what we wanted.

Pretty sure nobody wanted the defense and special teams to fall off as dramatically as they have.

Being an ass or u really don't get it? We wanted an offensive led football team. The offense is top 10 good and everyone has caveats. The defense doesn't have to carry the team and people are upset that they aren't capable of it anymore, despite the fact that they still get turnovers at a league best rate.

The offense has made up for the decline on defense like we hoped.

Squeaking out last second wins and barely beating ass teams isn't what we hoped for. Like I said, the offense is trending clearly in the right direction and things look really good on that end for the future, but to sit back and say right now that everything is essentially fine this season isn't being realistic. There's a massive, massive gap between the defense carrying the team and the mess that it is right now, so to act like people "don't get it" when they're pointing how obviously flawed the team is right now is just ridiculous. The Bears are a decent team that is likely going to to either miss the playoffs or get knocked out very early because everything besides the offense is old and declining fast.

This. Very accurate summery of what we can expect from the Bears this season.

Also, unless the Bears decide to stop playing like ass against the Packers, I'm gonna count those 2 games as losses. Dallas can easily be a loss too.

In the beginning of the year, I had them 9-7, 8-8. They've exceeded those expectations as I see them more 10-6 again. Given what has happened to the defense, I'm pleased with how they've played so far and assume they'd have a far worse record if Lovie was still coach.

With that said, it'd be foolish to trade a draft pick for a D-Lineman at this point, unless it was jaw droppingly stupid for the other team.

Honestly the first 6 games have been almost dead-on with what I expected. And I came into the season expecting 10 wins. Same as last year. Better offensive talent/coaching, I expected offense around 15-18 in total yards. Aging talent/changed coaching on defense, I expected them to be about 12-15. Turns out both are about 5 spots better/worse so far, but still the same result.

Well, it also helps that NYG and PIT both suck balls, which I didn't expect coming in.

I picked Pit to win 5 games. NYG I had missing the Playoffs. Figured the Bears would win at Pit and 2 of 3 at home vs NO, NYG, CIN.

This game has a scary feel to it. Reminds me of the Seahawks game last year.

Reminds me of every Redskins game of late. They are never anything special but a bad fit for Bears. RGIII could rack up a ton of fantasy points.

Oh god the 'Skins. I remember the first game Kyle Orton started, he almost pulled it out, but then I believe Fred Miller and company had 3 false starts in a row, led to an insane 3rd and 35 or something, and they lost to Washington without giving up a touchdown.

Then you had that horrible awful, still killing me, Todd Collins game. You can't lose that game. Some part of me thinks the reason Collins was picked up as a back up was because of this game. Doubly awful.

And the 2010 game. No excuses to lose that one. Donovan McNabb was terrible, the Bears were running up and down the field, and Cutler just had to throw the most inconvenient interceptions ever. I believe Hester also had a game winning kick off return waved off.

So Washington has been the source of some really, really, really painful losses recently. Also, change the name already, god.

Yeah I agree, the last few times we played them I thought we should win going into the game and lost all 3 in really annoying frustrating ways.

The last time I remember beating them, Urlacher got a TD reception on a fake FG.
