Is ABTY ever correct? It seems everything I read from him is total bull donk.

He called some of our cheap pitching acquistions last year, iirc.

Basically, he doesn't have a direct connection to the Cubs. What he reports are what the rumormill among scouts and others inside baseball are saying.

I will be borderline furious if they get Bourjos for Freese.

@Ken_Rosenthal Bourjos for Freese, others involved. Just waiting for final names. #Angels #STLCards

Come the [expletive] on. We couldn't have topped that stellar offer?

Hopefully the other names balance it out a little bit, there's not much we can do if DiPoto wants a 3B and doesn't realize that Freese has nearly zero trade value.

An infielder predicted to WAR over 2.0 next year? No, I'm not sure the Cubs do have something better than that, pathetically enough.

Ken_Rosenthal #Angels getting Salas along with Freese from #STLCards. Freese and Salas for Bourjos and Grichuk.

Jerry DiPoto is bad at GM things.

Wish the Cubs could have gotten in on that.

Im literally [expletive] done with my life. Why the [expletive] would we trade David Freese? Like honestly? What the [expletive]. I cant even grasp this...

I can understand hearing some vitriol from St. Louis fans about trading Freese, given what he did in the World Series a couple years back and that he's a home town guy... but to even facetiously say you're giving up on life because they traded an often injured 3B they didn't need makes me laugh. Can't wait to see more reactions.

Hopefully this rumor can be confirmed and other "best fans" will follow suit.

Doesn't a ton of his value lie in his ability to man CF, which would seem to be highly mitigated by playing half his games at Wrigley Field?

Mitigated? Maybe a little bit. Highly mitigated? Wrigley still has a deep enough CF, the area there isn't wildly exaggerated like LF in Houston or Boston. You're not talking about much of a difference in his value.

I had resigned myself to the fact it looked like the Cubs weren't going to be in on the major FA. But seeing the mid tier guys like Hudson, Johnson and Young flying off the board without our involvement is annoying. And seeing Bourjos go to the Cards really stings.

There just really isn't enough in left in the mid-tier of the market to give the Cubs a reasonable shot at being a decent ballclub next year. It'd take Kazmir, Haren, and Infante. And smart bench pickups like Kottaras and Sizemore. Plus holding onto Samardzija. And being able to trade Barney+ for a 3 WAR OF. And rebounds/breakouts from Castro and Rizzo. Oh, and the pen needs to magically become awesome.

All of that might get us to about 88 wins and a 50/50 shot at a wild card spot.

This is going to be a frustrating offseason.

We know for a fact that, at the very least, there was involvement on Johnson.

Also, both Baez and Bryant could be good productive rookies next year (just to add to the limited list of things that could/would need to go right).

I don't know what you're drinking (or smoking), but it's pretty potent stuff.

You're right. We just need to bring Hendry back. He can work out a three way deal where we move Vitters, Jackson, Barney, and Lake for Trout and Cabrera. Then we are golden.
