It's harder to tank this year than win the championship. There is some stiff competition. I'll take the playoff revenue.

Do not want to be in every type of sports hell for the next few years. Tank, baby, tank

Sorry anti-tankers there is almost certainly going to be some sort of move made to downgrade the team, especially with the team going 1-5 without Rose so far. There is no way JR is going to pay the luxury tax for a sub .500 team, especially if that puts us on track for a repeater tax after next year which is good for the team long term.

KC Johnson was on Mully and Hanley a bit ago and said that tanking is going to be almost impossible for this team. He doesn't think the team will be able to trade Deng, said he'd be surprised if the team trades more than 2 people, and he'd bet the under on that. And he said there's almost no way that the Bulls don't make the playoffs thanks to so many bad teams. He said that people need to get over the idea of tanking, because it's much harder to do that in the NBA when you're built like the Bulls than other sports like baseball where you can just pay $14mil or something to make Boozer go to another team.

Sorry maybe tanking is the wrong word. But it makes no sense to have this team pay the luxury tax when they would be in danger of being repeaters if they are over the tax in either of the next 2 seasons. But you're right, it might not be possible to clear enough salary off the books. I think the Bulls would need to lose $7.5 million in salary during the season to avoid the tax. That would mean somehow finding a team under the cap willing to basically absorb Deng for nothing.

I have zero interest in the team tanking. I could look at the last 5 drafts and there is a handful of guys that would be worth wiping a season off the map and the odds are (regardless of the depth of this draft) that we wont get a franchise player with the 4 - 8 pick.

Id rather watch the team go for 46 wins and then have a playoff series than stop watching now because we tank.

I'll argue this with the Cubs; that what they have done for the past 3 years isnt worth a world series to me. Ive missed out on 3 years of baseball. And punting a basketball season is not worht the marginal upgrade in future seasons by getting a Derrick Favors-type player in this years draft.

Go for a 5 seed and beat the 8 seed then beat the Pacers.

They are saying that this is the deepest draft at least since 2003, but possibly since 1984. I think I read somewhere that there are probably up to 12 guys in this draft that could have gone #1 in last year's draft (albeit last year's draft was said to be historically weak).

There is some value to getting 2 picks in the 10-15 range (one being the Bobcats pick)

You own the Bucks and you're a Bulls fan?

huh?

He meant beat the 4 seed (likely to be the champ of the horrible Atlantic Division) and then the Pacers.

Yes sorry.

Last year we had essentially the same team minus dunleavy/snell, plus nate/bellinelli. Without Rose id rather have last year's guys, but still those are ok nba bottom rotational guys.

We had a fun playoff run last year. This year, hopefully, we are a ton healthier in the playoffs with luol and kurt playing and noah and taj not severly limited. I dont see why we cant have a decent playoff run with this group (I recognize they arent playing well now, but they will come around).

My expectations are down but I would absolutely want a shot at the Pacers in the playoffs. Even the 2003 draft had 4 superstars and not a ton else. I think the upside in tanking is pretty limited and id rather have a go at it this year with lower expectations, have rose back next year, bobcats pick, mirotic and sign an impact guy and be right there with the top teams next year anyway.

I think the upside in "having a go at it" is way more limited than the upside in tanking.

Without pulling up the numbers I'm not sure we can get under the tax. Someone else under the cap has to absorb it. Next offseason probably isn't too hard to do do if we deem it necessary.

Yeah it would have to take multiple trades to get there and even then it might be tough with salaries having to nearly match. The only way to get out from under it would be to amnesty Boozer without some crazy trade scenarios that likely would be unrealistic.

I think I can name one player in that picture, though there's almost certainly a more famous player I'm missing since #50 is who I've got.

Sadly I can name almost everyone in that pic. That era was the height of my NBA fandom. Good to see guys like Doug West, Pooh Richardson and Felton Spencer again.
