@JeffPassan: Sources: MLB, NPB still have not come to an agreement on new posting system. Haggling over amount of $ from posting going to Japanese team.

http://sports.yahoo.com/news/japanese-ace-masahiro-tanaka-will-make-historic-money-but-questions-abound-171014762.html

The Yankees, Dodgers, Cubs and Giants, among many others, covet Tanaka, and their presence isn't likely to scare away other teams suddenly flush with cash from the league's new national TV deal, mushrooming local TV revenues and the runaway success of MLB Advanced Media.

...

A high-ranking National League executive posited the posting fee alone could reach $100 million, not a fantastical proposition – other executives guessed somewhere in the $75 million range – but one that may fall victim to proposed systems in which MLB teams would funnel less money via the posting fee in an effort to get more to the player.

...

The total outlay for Tanaka could easily top $125 million, even if most scouts and executives do not see the 6-foot-2, 200-pounder having Darvish's top-five-starter-in-baseball ceiling.

More like Gordon Gecko not even acknowledging Louis Winthorpe III while Louis was just shoving salmon in his pants.

Has anyone seen that recently. I can't imagine it holds up nearly as well as it did when I watched it last 20 years ago

It holds up just slightly better than Bill and Ted's does.

Don't you know the Dewey Decimal System?

What a scam that was. Boy, this Dewey guy really cleaned up on that deal.

It's still ridiculous and awesome. A buddy of mine makes spiral bound notebooks out of old VHS boxes and computer paper. I'm staring at my UHF notebook right now

Oh [expletive] you, Dodgers...

According to Peter Gammons, the Dodgers strategy this offseason is to acquire both David Price and Masahiro Tanaka.

Rather than seeking to upgrade their rotation through the Major League free agent market, where they could be forced to surrender draft pick compensation or slot money, this looks like a very plausible alternative. The Dodgers certainly have the pieces in their farm system to swing a deal for Price, and undoubtedly have the cash to win the posting fee for the rights to negotiate with Tanaka. Once again, the Dodgers should be a very intriguing team to watch this Winter.

The line about not giving up a draft pick makes no sense to me. They'd prefer to keep a draft pick vs. giving up multiple established, talented, and developing minor leaguers? This is from Peter Gammons, so...
