Olt optimism I can see.

But Kalish? He's hoping for a "isn't it cool how this guy made the roster and wasn't a terrible bench player after all he's been through" type of comeback, not "oh man, now he's finally ready to be the star he was always destined to be." He made a brief appearance or two on the very back of some top-100s, but that was it.

Yep, you're hoping for Sweeney redux as an optimistic outcome.

George Kottaras cleared waivers. Given unconditional release. #Cubs

Posted it in Transactions but also appropriate here. So Whiteside and Baker compete for the backup catcher spot. Woof.

Nostalgic for Koyie Hill.

Kalish has to be added to 40-man roster, as does Bonifacio. #Cubs

Funny, that was the same comment that came to my mind.

The 40 man is currently at 38, correct?

Edit: Before adding Kalish, Baker and Bonifacio.

Correct, one spot needs to open up. Could be Fujikawa going to the 60-day DL, DFAing a guy like Raley, etc.

If Liriano starts for #Pirates Monday, @mike_olt will start at 3B for the #Cubs

Please tell me they're not platooning him

Does that mean Fujikawa to the 60 man to open up the 3rd spot or is something else in the works?

Seems possible because the word was the Cubs would make cuts after Tuesday SS games but it hasn't happened still. Hope that means the are working on a move to finalize the 40 man.

Called this two weeks ago RT @CubsDen Hearing that if Olt can make the throws from 3B, he's going to get the job.

REALLY GUY?

@GDubCub Renteria says Valbuena still will share time at third with Olt. Hoyer said he expects Olt shoulder to "keep getting healthier"
