ESPN did a piece on Abreu with scouting opinions...

http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/page/onenationmlb09172013/sizing-cuban-slugger-jose-dariel-abreu

Abreu is a below-average runner and a base clogger. His arm is adequate, and most scouts think he has the attributes to be a serviceable defensive first baseman. It's probably a stretch to think he can make the switch to third base or a corner outfield spot.

One talent evaluator said Abreu could step into a big league lineup tomorrow and hit .260 with 25 home runs. That's not far from what Cespedes is doing in Oakland this season. Another expressed concern that Abreu looks "confused" against breaking balls and thought he could benefit from a little seasoning in the upper minors. Once Abreu gets the hang of major league pitching, the consensus is that he has the strength to hit 30 homers by accident.

on the plus side he has the floating robot from wall-e following him around everywhere, so that probably helps him in some way.

Another guy right up our alley. Certainly throws hard, wonder if his height keeps him in the pen? Still, at 23, we'll definitely be after him.

Cuban first baseman Jose Abreu has officially been declared a free agent and is now free to sign with any team.

The Giants are one team already known to have interest in the 26-year-old slugger. He put on a show in this season's World Baseball Classic, hitting .360 with three homers and nine RBI in six games. Abreu will soon work out for Major League teams and is expected to garner significant interest league-wide.

If the Giants are interested, why aren't the Cubs? Giants already have Belt.

Belt already has played some in the OF and isn't considered a good defensive 1B as it is. Rizzo hasn't played OF and is damn good defensively. All I got-I wish we'd try and fit him in too.

Alright, the WS' terrible ability to evaluate talent most of the time has me convinced that fat load status is a go.

Or it better be, because him being awesome across town will suuuuuuuck.

WS got him, 6/68.

Rangers hot after Abreu

The Rangers are definitely making a push for Cuban first baseman Jose Abreu. The are indications that Abreu is close to a decision and the Rangers could end up getting him. The White Sox are also hot after him but one source familiar with the negotiations said the Rangers are expected to land him.

Conflicting twitter reports involving a Chicago team not named the Cubs? Kind of fun.
