why is baez part of the world team?

Baez was born in Puerto Rico and moved to Florida in middle school, so I guess they're going off birthplace.

ah i clicked on his name and he has the PR flag next to his name. guess he was born in puerto rico? although puerto ricans are american citizens, so i don't see why they're part of the world team anyway.

Oh, just freakin' splendid

@sahadevsharma

Soler has a stress fracture in left tibia. He'll be in a walking boot, it'll be 4-6 weeks before he can resume baseball activities.

So much for any hope of AA for him this year.

Did he do this in all star batting practice?

And if he's more to ward 6 weeks, it could mean no games for 8 weeks. That puts his return at the end of August. Season ends early September. Does he go to AFL this fall to get some ABs?

Even if he is able to get some regular season action, he's got to be going to th AFL now.

are stress fractures things that happen at one point or something that builds over time? I don't think it's possible to pinpoint a time when a stress fracture occurred.

They build over time, but unless I am mistaken, can stem from a previous injury (or injuries) that went untreated.

It may not actually be a stress fracture as that's just kind of a general term for vertical "cracks" in the tibia. It could well have been caused by the foul ball off the leg and there's just not a better term for it.

Well if it's an acute injury resembling a stress fracture, simply calling it a hairline fracture would seem more appropriate. But maybe that's just what it is.

Daytona News-Journal[/url]"]There is no timetable for Soler's return, but a similar injury to Arismendy Alcantara last season -- when he was with Daytona -- ended the year for the promising middle infielder.

Alcantara, a 21-year-old from the Dominican Republic, recovered and is playing so well this season for Double-A Tennessee that he's been selected to play in the Futures Game next month.

...

Soler, who is ranked as the organization's third-best prospect by Baseball America and MLB.com, attempted to play in the Florida State League All-Star Game on June 15 in Dunedin. However, after playing in the field in the top half of the first inning for the North Division All-Stars, the injury forced him to leave the game. He batted just .216 in his last 10 games leading up to the all-star break.

The 6-foot-4, 215-pound outfielder was eligible to come off the disabled list last week but remained sidelined. Soler had been dressing out for recent games and sitting in the dugout. He appeared to be slightly favoring his left leg Sunday as he walked off the field at Jackie Robinson Ballpark.
