Well what happened to drafting impact guys? This guy has 5th starter written all over him.

They'll need one of those...

I'm not a fan for more than one reason. I thought he was a late 2nd/early 3rd round talent. But mainly because this likely signifies that we aren't getting a discount on Bryant. I thought for sure this would be an over slotted High School pitcher.

I'm most annoyed I have to type his name in probable starters and box scores for the next few years.

I would hope so. I imagine they can save some money with their second rounder.

If he was hitting that kind of velocity, it wasn't being translated into a lot of Ks.

well what a crappy draft. I was hoping if they took Bryant that at least they took him at a deal and could overslot with this pick. *sigh*

well you're mad about everything

You can't draft impact guys in the second round. I mean, occasionally you'll hit the magic draft lottery, but there's no way to consistently do it.

Any chance that Consonant Guy's pick allows the Cubs to spend on someone like Connor Jones, Hunter Green or Kyle Serrano if they fall to them in the 3rd?

Loads of talent, but iirc, stanford screwed with his swing, which messed him up.

Stanford is just brutal coaching offense/hitting mechanics.

Patrick Mooney ‏@CSNMooney

McLeod projects Bryant as a 3B and says: "We're never going to draft on need."

So refreshing to hear out of a FO. It's part of what has made the NE Patriots and Steelers consistently successful in the NFL. Different sports, but same philosophy can apply.

I wonder how much input Derek Johnson has into the pitchers we draft.

I've been wondering this as well. If this guy can mix speeds well with a plus change up, has a fastball that can touch 95 (even if it doesn't sit 95), and has a curve/slider that just needs a little work - he seems like the high upside project Johnson was specifically brought in to harness.
