I agree, but his stats don't show him as a dominant type guy.

Agreed. Any legit pitching emerging on the market is a good thing for us, but I think there's some wishscouting going on. Good for him that he can "touch" 97 when letting it go in a bullpen session, but wasn't it less than 6 K/9 in the Cuban League? Pass.

This is not really the place but just wanted to lol at you gloating about being right about Porcello not learning how to strike guys out after like 3 weeks of this season. I tried to find the place but there are just too many possibilities.

Works for me. That's baseball and all that.

@JeffPassan Dissenting view from official who saw Miguel Alfredo Gonzalez: Very good stuff but prob not in position to help team this yr.

Over 60 scouts watched this guys last outing. Knobler thinks he may get 5 years and 60 mill. Gotta admit, thats more than a tad scary for my tastes.

So the consensus was that he could help a team this year?

Sounds like it. He's 26.

Doesn't sound like he's been in competitive regular competition for a while and would at least need some getting used to American culture, on top of some minor league innings.

It sounds like teams amongst the consensus are hoping it would be similar to Cespedes' situation - a month or so in the minors (obviously depends on stretching out his arm, not just introducing him to the US) and then he'd be ready to at least contribute to a big league pen in September.

You can check the box score tonight on MiLB.com. He might throw as many as 5 IP.

Any word on his start tonight? I can't find it on milb.com

I know it's tremendously unlikely, but adding Eloy Jimenez, Gleybar Torres and Gonzalez would take this farm from good to ridiculous real quick.

I don't really think of this guy as a minor league asset even if he needs some light seasoning to get ready.

The kids there don't really do a whole lot to add to the farm for a couple years, to be honest.

Someone at PSD

I watched the Cuban pitcher first inning live on a grainy internet video and he was getting hit pretty hard without a lot of swings and misses.

Yeah, they certainly aren't going to affect the farm rankings and they definitely wont be in a top 100 list, but they do provide more high upside talent. That's all I'm looking for.

I could be wrong, but I think he threw 3 perfect innings with 6 K. Link (see bottom of page.)

Looks like those are season stats. Did he pitch for that team his first time? Might just not be updated.

Albeit in a very brief view, I wasn't particularly impressed with Gonzalez. Maybe he didn't have his best stuff, but if someone is willing to throw 60M at him I hope it's not the Cubs.

Danny Knobler[/url]"]About 45 scouts were in Tijuana, Mexico, on Friday night to watch Miguel Alfredo Gonzalez, baseball's latest Cuban sensation.

The 26-year-old right-hander is with the Tijuana Toros as a showcase before signing with a major-league team. One scout who was there said that the Cubs were heavily represented. The Dodgers, Red Sox and Angels were also among the many teams who watched Gonzalez.

The estimates of how much it will take to sign Gonzalez vary greatly, with some scouts suggesting Friday it could take $40 million over four years. Others have said Gonzalez could get $60 million over five years, or even more.

The Dodgers are said to badly want Gonzalez, but they'll face competition. The Red Sox had eight representatives watching Gonzalez last week, including general manager Ben Cherington.

Not a single word on the actual performance. SMH.
