I'm not familiar with the NBA transfer policies and buying out Euro league contacts. Is it impossible that Montenegrin basketball Jesus, Niko Mirotic, could join us this offseason or do we definitely have to wait until his contact is up?

From what I understand, we have to wait till we are three years removed from his drafting (next offseason) to be able to compete with his European salary.

"You're slotted in the first round, and I think the slot for No. 24 is $1.3 or $1.4 million," Forman said Thursday on "The Waddle & Silvy Show" on ESPN 1000. "Well, he makes a lot more money than that right now over at Real Madrid. So the way the CBA is written is after three years then you're no longer slotted. Then you can use whether it's exception room or cap room in order to pay a guy.

"So there's no possibility this summer because next year will be his third year. But after next year, the summer of 2014, then we'll be able to start some negotiations as far as a buyout possibly with Real Madrid or negotiate with him to come over here."

There's the fact that you're capped to his rookie scale amount, but there is also a limit to what you can pay towards the buyout without it counting against the cap. Under the old CBA I think it was 500K. Each year of the CBA that figure increases, but a small amount, 25K maybe. So you're looking at a small figure still. So you really need at least MLE money to match his current salary going forward and covering the buyout.

Mirotic named MVP on the Spanish League. Youngest MVP in league history, a record previously held by Marc Gasol. He averaged 12.6 points and 5.5 rebounds to lead his team to a 30-4 record, best in the league.

He shot 50.5 percent overall and 43.5 percent from three while shooting 80.7 percent from the line.

How good are we thinking Nikola could be? Ceiling and likely outcome?

Also, worth more to us to hold on to him or as an elite trade chip?

If this kid could really become a Dirk, I wouldn't trade him.

Evaluation on the RealGM board is mostly positive but some are critical of how effective he'll be in the NBA.

Dunno how I forgot about this thread, I even posted in it already!

Anyway, the Rose conversation will never end.

The old Derrick Rose is back.

Chicago Bulls coach Tom Thibodeau said Rose's speed and explosiveness are back to where the former MVP feels like himself again.

"I worked him out about a week ago," Thibodeau said in a phone conversation Thursday. "It was great."

"Watching the way he's moving now, there's a confidence," Thibodeau said. "[Reporters] may not have been able to see the total work he was putting in. But he was putting in an enormous amount of work each and every day. He just never got to the explosiveness he was comfortable with. I think he's there now. He feels great, and that's the most important thing."

He said Rose is "running, lifting, playing and shooting. His day is full."

"The kid was being totally honest," Thibodeau said. "At the end of the day, you have to respect that. He wanted to be out there very badly. But no one knew when he would be ready, including him. It was a smart decision to wait. If you're not quite sure, and you're going to err, err on the side of caution. That's what he did. And now he feels great."

While reports speculated that Rose was dominating his teammates in the gym, Thibodeau says now that wasn't the case.

"He was practicing and he was good sometimes, but he also wasn't able to make the kinds of plays he likes to make," Thibodeau said. "No one is more explosive and can change direction like him. He had to be capable of doing that.

"That's what makes him so unique, how quick and explosive he is," Thibodeau continued. "He can jump sideways to avoid contact. He's always hopping around. That's a lot on your knee. You have to be comfortable doing that. He takes off and he doesn't take long to go from securing the ball to exploding and blowing by somebody."

As someone who loves him some Bulls but doesn't follow as closely as Cubs/Bears - is anyone expecting the Bulls to make any real moves of note this off season?

Trade for Kevin Love...but that'll be all. :stickman:

Nope. They'll re-tool their bench again after Thibs gets another crop of bums paid and then make their moves next offseason.

If anything at all happens, like if something crazy pops up like DeMarcus Cousins or Kevin Love become available, they'll certainly be interested, but that's probably not happening.

You really think the Bulls would be interested in Cousins? Doesn't seem like that's been their MO since Paxson took over.

I don't know. I think they should have enough trust in their coach and lockerroom leaders to take on a knucklehead, but you could be right. I'm certainly interested.

Yeah, I hope they'd be interested in Cousins if he were available.

DX has the Bulls taking Hardaway Jr. at #20. I like his potential but it's hard for me to pass up on Dieng if he's on the board.

Obviously, you go with Dieng if he's available, but what is the likeliness that he's there at 20?

I wouldn't be sad about Hardaway Jr.

DX has Dieng going #22 to the Nets.

Deng to Washington for #3 and Okafor being rumored as well per Marc Stein.

Okafor has a player option for $14 million but expires after this season, just like Deng. Don't really see why the Wizards would do that.

Deng has value as an expiring contract who is still a pretty darn effective player but if you're just swapping expirings coming from a bad team? I'd rather tank again and get a lot of lottery balls in a draft worth a damn.

Ben McLemore would definitely be intriguing. I'll believe the Bulls will actually move Deng when I see it at this point, though.
